Last we’d heard, developer Bethesda was working diligently to get their first DLC for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim on the PS3, and that as soon as they made progress they would let gamers know. Since then, however, the developer has gone on to reveal a new piece of DLC, Hearthfire, for Skyrim without so much as a vague mention of where PS3 version of Dawnguard.
Now, we have an update from Bethesda as to where they stand with Dawnguard, as well as how they are approaching new content, and it’s not going to make PS3 gamers happy. Essentially, rather than a confirmation that the PS3 version of Dawnguard is almost finished, Bethesda is now implying it, and future DLC, might never see the console at all.
There’s talk of the difficulties the developer had with the console to begin with – we all know how bad the game’s launch was on PS3 – and that compounds the problem when looking at DLC. It’s not just Dawnguard that Bethesda needs to think about, though, it’s their entire plan for future expansions, which includes the aforementioned Hearthfire.
Nearly every time new details are revealed about Skyrim – be it a patch, an update, or mod – fans continue to ask where Dawnguard for the PS3 is, and it looks like they may be inquiring indefinitely. Here’s the full response from Bethesda:
Earlier in the month, we provided an update on Dawnguard’s status for PS3.
It’s been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we’re at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you’re talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we’re working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.
We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.
Now PS3 players are left to hope that somehow Bethesda is able to reconcile their problems before the next DLC releases, lest they be lost forever. It’s entirely possible that if Bethesda can’t get things going on Dawnguard by the time Hearthfire releases, that they would forgo PS3-based DLC releases altogether, claiming they’d lost too much ground on that particular console.

However last time Bethesda said they were struggling with the PS3 and couldn’t make progress with an update, they up and revealed a release date a few days later. That may not be the case here, but gamers are hoping things take a turn for the better, and soon.
What’s your tipping point as far as this Dawnguard DLC is concerned? How long are you willing to wait before giving up hope?
Skyrim‘s Hearthfire DLC is slated to release on September 4, 2012 for the Xbox 360.

We have all seen threads where people compare the overall power of PS3 vs 360. However, lets just focus on the RAM for now, since both consoles can be easily bottle-necked by their low RAM. With the Xbox 360, you have 512mb shared between the CPU and GPU. If you play a game which requires more focus on CPU and less on graphics (such as a RTS game), then this would be a great advantage, since the CPU can take up like 70% of the total RAM if needed to.
As for the PS3, you have 256mb dedicated to CPU and another 256mb dedicated to GPU. You have the same RAM in total, but the CPU cannot “borrow” some of the GPU’s RAM if it needed to, which could be a disadvantage for some games and make it harder for developers. However I am sure the PS3 has faster RAM to compensate.
Your thoughts? How much memory do the operating systems take on the PS3 and 360? I heard that the 360 takes 32mb of RAM while the PS3 takes 96, but I’m not too sure at all.
I don’t exactly say that either system is better from this point. Both fan basis can shove there points in each others faces. But both systems have equally disadvantages and advantages… Skyrim may not run properly fOr ps3 but u may find another game that totally devastates the debate that Xbox is better. U cannot decide what system is better over 1 game. As Xbox fans are trying to argue. That’s just being aragont.

And I am a ps3 owner who believes ps3 can handle better graphics but that does not make it the better system cause u may find an Xbox game with better graphics just s***** game play… Why can’t everyone just agree that both systems are great… We’re so close to running are games in 720… And everything’s going to b lifelike just the way we always imagined it while playing sega genisus….

BOTH SYSTEMS HAVE DISADVANTAGES!!! So one person saying all these problems make Ps3 less of a product than XboX is arrogant. And should maybe b slapped in the mouth where they eat bags of frozen Microsoft dicks for a living…
Soun.ds like your a sony fanboy
Sounds like your a sony fanboy
Well this sucks because i traded in my xbox 360 for a ps3 now it seems all the games i enjoy never get anything on time or at all =( *epic sadface*
I own both systems I still think its gay that you don’t get it. I feel for you playstation users
Yall need to step ur game up bethesda
I’ve got both systems, but bought the ps3 version for the graphics. I’ve had all the trouble everyone else has with lag and glitches, but the last patch seems to have fixed it.. so I didn’t mind. But now I can’t have dlc? Why did they even release on ps3 if there were all these issues? Now I’ve gotta go to walmart and try to get them to take my year old copy for a spiffy less bug riddled 360 copy.
Why even bother getting it for the PS3 if it was for the graphics? The difference in graphics is minute. PC.
I think Beth knew they shouldn’t have released it on that system. I think it’s a case where Sony paid them to put it on the PS3. Imagine how annoyed you would been if they didn’t have it on there at all.
i was really looken forward to this dlc, bethesda needs to step there game
Y’all need to stop dropping the ball when it comes to the doc for ps3 or people will stop buying your games period. We by your games even when it glitches or freezes if y’all do it again and again who will by your product. You let me know
