As of today – for PC gamers – the land of Skyrim is about to get a lot bigger and a lot more interesting. It took a few months for it to happen but Bethesda is proud to announce that the Skyrim Creation Kit is officially available for download for free via Steam.
We anxiously watched the Creation Kit preview last week, knowing it would come this month, and it’s finally here. Alongside the modding tools comes the High-Resolution Texture Pack and a little surprise from Valve.
Since Valve’s hosting the modding utilities through the Skyrim Workshop on Steam, they’ve partnered with Bethesda to offer one of the first mods available to download: Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1. This mod adds one of the funny floating sphere bots from Portal 2 as a companion – read the description to see why it’s a must-download:
To celebrate the opening of the Steam Workshop for Skyrim, Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring you the Portal 2 Space Core mod, which will let the aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel.
Also, since Skyrim was the only major release of 2011 without Nolan North in it, you should consider this mod a patch to fix that problem. You can now feel free to include Skyrim in the “Nolan North” section of your video game library, which is to say, your video game library.
For any PC players of previous Elder Scrolls games Morrowind and Oblivion who were into modding and locating cool mods and total conversions through a variety of fan-made sites – it’s all been centralized to one easy-to-manage hub at mods.elderscrolls.com. It is here where players can upload, download, and install custom content.
As for the High-res textures, check out the system requirements:
- Windows Vista or 7 operating system
- Minimum of 4GB of system RAM
- DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM and the latest drivers.
Are you going to play around with the toolkit or install mods? I know I’m going to make or download one that lets my Nord warrior wear more than one ring… because he has ten fingers.
How long until someone adds and/or opens up the land of Morrowind or Cyrodiil in the game since they’re partially there already?

Hey, will the texture pack be automatically downloaded/installed if we have the pre-reqs or……?
Why can’t this come to consol 360/PS3….lucky
I totally forgot about this and was playing Metro 2033, missed most of the day already smh damn.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this and create something.
HOLY CRAP. Ok, I must hate Skyrim a lot…..but crap, I guess I’m going to playing the damn game, my excuse is these mods. If the Space Core bot from Portal can be made with this creation kit…I bet we’ll not just see a Nolan North, but also a full on Nathan Drake in this game. Hell yeah!
To be honest, I put in 20-40 hours into Morrowind and Oblivion before simply stopping both, but mods brought me back to replaying both games and beating them to completion.
I’m sorry, I didn’t understand that comment. Wait, nevermind, I need to get back to mining ore and chopping wood. This house isn’t going to pay for itself.
