Ruh roh…the latest patch for Bethesda’s epic RPG, Skyrim has already started causing problems among users. Perhaps most concerning: all magick resistances are invalid – meaning mages will have a lot more difficulty as they progress through the game.
Users have also experienced frame drop in some instances, as well. Bethesda is aware of the problem and is already working on another patch.
Skyrim‘s 1.2 patch had worked to solve a number of issues, but as it is with programming, fresh bugs will inevitably find their way into even a patched game. In a huge title like Skyrim, it’s almost to be expected. However, an error of this level is pretty egregious and is already rendering many mage players incapable of progressing. Strategies that had once worked before are now useless.
Obviously, fans of the game are definitely expressing their outcry on the Bethesda forums. When it’s said that the magick resistances are gone, they really are. For example, Flame Atronachs can now be killed by their own spells. Obviously not a good thing. In addition, poison resistance/immunity is also history, so the perks of being either a vampire or a werewolf are not viable any longer. Forum users have also reported that performing a system clear will not fix the errors either.
Whether or not a mage playstyle was chosen or a warrior-type, resistances are a major component to staying alive in Skyrim encounters. All of a player’s potions, of various resist, are for the time being just taking up inventory space.
At this point, the only way to avoid these errors is to simply not install the patch.
It’s easy to direct all the ire toward Bethesda right now, who, by all means, should have ensured the update wouldn’t have caused these kinds other problems. That said, remember that it takes a lot of work to ensure that a game as large as Skyrim runs as smoothly as possible – not an excuse, but it’s a reason for why something like this may have happened.

“….but it’s a reason for why something like this may have happened”, I’m sorry, but that’s a stupid thing to say. If it had been something little, such as certain spells not working, or armour skins not showing on the character, I could understand how it would slip through the net; but every single resistance being nullified? Dragons discovering they have a reverse gear? Come on!
There is no excuse whatsoever for this sort of failure on Bethesda’s behalf.
this is almost the last straw. i would literally consider trading in Skyrim now, something that if i considered it before, i would be stark raving mad. this is just unacceptable. next game had better be more fine tuned.
i’ve been playing through the game without using resistant potions. im damn sure everyone else can deal with it.

Im a full clothy…no armor at all. I rely on my breton racial. 25% resistance to magic. and The lord stone. Another 25% resistance to magic. And Finally Ebony Skin (for now till i get better spell) thats 350 armor with perks. Im simply not gonna update. The textures seem fine to me installed. I have compared them personally and I dont see a significant diff. to be honest. Ill just wait till they fix it. again…

No, this is what you don’t get, moan all you want but you won’t be heard, let them patch the game, it’s just been released. I don’t care if your black, white, asian, mexican, or if you’re scraping food off of the ground to survive. If you can buy a video game, you have plenty of money, and if not, don’t be buying video games if you’re poor. Spend the money on food and your families well-being. So that would explain why my health plummeted so much when I was poisoned. I thought something felt off; I’d get poisoned and my health would plummet so I’d heal and it would go up and then continue to go down more.
This makes a lot of sense. I am level 37 and I was fighting/stuggling with a Frost dragon and I use the Otar mask for its resistances when fighting anything with magic. I normally dont struggle with Dragons since the beginning of the game but the Frost Dragon was killing my health bar and I couldn’t figure out why. I had to use potions for the first time in a while to defeat it when usually I have time to use restoration spells. Hope they fix it soon.
its funny how people complain about how bad this is, but we all know it will be fixed within a matter of days. If it renders the game unplayable, Play somthing else! Skyrim isn’t the only game in the world ya know.
Exactly!! Who cares the game is awesome. I’ll just play some Uncharted 3, Rage, BF3 or Madden 12 until they get it fixed. Or maybe this is a good time to go get Saints Row the Third. People get over yourselves.

I love how people expect perfection when these games are made by ‘humans’… it’s called “error”! The game’s incredible!! I can be patient and wait for them to fix it (not that I was even using many magic resistant potions/enchantments to begin with… my character is purely melee/bow).

This game is unplayable for me on my PS3. Whenever I am fighting someone the game will freeze. I wish they had better QA!
I don’t use any sort of magic my only enchantments are my dark brotherhood armor and if I lost them I still would be fine cuz it’s an epic game, if you can’t adjust then play something else

Wait! I was just playing my mage minutes ago with the patch and I was fine. Is this not a problem for everyone, or are people trying to make bad marks on this game by claiming more bugs? Because I have friends who are Dark Souls fans who keep overexaggerating and making up bugs to try to make Skyrim seem of lesser quality.
I can confirm this as a thing happening to me. I installed the patch and was finishing The Black Stat quest when a dragon attacked me at the shrine. I drank a fire resist potion and saw that it had no effect whatsoever. I checked online and saw people had the same problems.

when I was a kid, we had no video games; NONE. we had hopskotch and bottled scotch and cigarettes and math problems and a world war to worry about; the FIRST one not that corporate Second World War; was a time when a steam ship was a perfectly fine way to travel and horse team could plough a field in a week!

oh and I never install patches just because the company says so; I wait, to find out more/see if it’s safe.
Glad I checked here first. That’s a pretty brutal bug. I still haven’t had any real problems with it on the 360, so the patch for me would have been purely cosmetic. Hopefully this’ll be resovled soon before she turns into a leaky submarine. Still having a blast though.

Am I the only person with patience here? It’s been less than a month guys! Only 2 patches are out, and with a game on this scale of course things are going to go wrong, they are working on another patch so quit yer bitchin and deal with it
Im a stealthy rouge so I really don’t need until I make my 5th character as a Magic user. But good thing I read this before I updated. Nothing to bitch about though. The game is still playable. If your having a hard time with it lower the difficulty thats why they put it on there. But honesty there is no reason 2 get way to mad at Bethesda. Remember people it is still just a game. I took a week off of college to play skyrim Im not suffering for it until school is over. I got carried away with it. Give Bethesda some time they will get all the knots out of the game sooner or later.
