Skull Kid Super Smash Bros Wii U 3DS

As Namco Bandai and Nintendo continue to progress deeper and deeper into the development of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, more and more characters have been confirmed for the highly anticipated brawler. A handful of veterans have been confirmed for a comeback in both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash, and while the return of certain characters is a relief for many, it's the newcomers that fans are really excited about.

One character that's been spotted on a plethora of roster wish lists is Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, but fans awoke today to learn that the tragic villain will once again be shafted as a playable character. Not to be completely left out from the chaos, however, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Skull Kid will be making an appearance as an Assist Trophy on the games' official MiiVerse page.

"Here's a new Assist Trophy--the Skull Kid! I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter. The characters announced on the website are the fighters!"

Since Skull Kid has remained such a prominently requested character for participation in Super Smash Bros. following the series' first installment, there are sure to be a number of gamers who are once again disappointed that Nintendo decided against having him be playable. That said, Sakurai and the rest of his team know that the character has only ever appeared in a single game and his relevancy isn't nearly as apparent as some of the previously announced newcomers.

He'll make a splendid addition as an Assist Trophy, nonetheless, and his powers may very well change the tide of a battle. Just what these powers are remains to be seen, but the likelihood of a demonic moon being brought down on the stage is a strong possibility.

What do you think about Skull Kid missing out on a playable role in Super Smash Bros.? How do you think this Assist Trophy will affect the battle, Ranters?
