In less than a month, Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere in theaters and the fan expectations are already quite high. Actor Simu Liu, who plays the role of the titular character, has been quite expressive over being given the opportunity of not only becoming a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also portraying the important role of Marvel’s first Asian superhero. In his latest tweet, he sums up his journey perfectly.

The social media trend ‘How it started vs how it’s going,’ has been quite popular on Twitter recently, with users sharing side-by-side images of how their journey began, and what they have managed to achieve. It could be related to their career or a relationship, but essentially marks their progress. Liu, who is quite social media-savvy, jumped on the bandwagon with his own Marvel journey.

In Liu’s post, his ‘how it started’ image is a screenshot of his tweet from 2018 that simply reads, “Ok @Marvel, are we gonna talk or what #ShangChi.” The ‘how it’s going’ image on the other hand is the latest poster released by Marvel for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which shows Liu in all his glory as the lead character. Some might say his journey is a lot more glamorous than their humble posts, but Liu is just living the dream.

Liu has previously confessed that he was quite excited when he heard about Marvel bringing Shang-Chi into the MCU. He even mentioned it in one of the featurettes Marvel released to promote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings recently. Back in 2018, Liu had tweeted to the studio to simply discuss the role, but little did he know then that he would soon become the face of the first Asian superhero-led film in the MCU.

The multiple trailers released for Shang-Chi so far highlight the character’s origin story, along with how he will return to the world living under his overlord father’s shadow. Apart from Liu, the film stars Awkwafina as Katy, Meng'er Zhang as Xialing, Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan, among others. Fans are, however, most looking forward to Tony Chiu-Wai Leung’s performance as The Mandarin. After a fake version of the character showed up in 2013’s Iron Man 3, fans are looking forward to how the real villain will fit into the MCU.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premieres in theaters on September 3, 2021.
