Shigeru Miyamoto Working On a New ‘Original’ Game

New Nintendo IP

If there’s one company in the gaming industry that is often criticized for reusing the same franchises over and over to the point of blatant unoriginality, it’s Activision. Of course, the creators of the blockbuster Call of Duty series aren’t alone on that particular front, as Nintendo has often been scoffed at for relying heavily on pre-existing properties to generate revenue.

It would appear that Nintendo is well aware of this public branding of their product, and have assigned none other than legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto to design a brand new game.

During a recent interview with, the gaming legend confirmed that he is working on an “undisclosed original title.” Nothing more was said about this potentially new intellectual property, but it was confirmed that he is currently hard at work on Luigi’s Mansion 2 for the 3DS and Pikmin 3 on the Wii U.

“People have come to expect a lot from me. This certainly makes me feel some pressure. But if you ask me, ‘Is it too much pressure to try to come out with something new?’ I have to say no, I’m enjoying myself. But when I make something I always try to do my best.”

Miyamoto also took the opportunity to address a recent report from Wired that stated that he would be retiring from Nintendo in the very near future, stating that “I really appreciate all the kindness given the kind of comments that I made. But to be clear, I have no intention to retire at all. I’m not old enough to think about retirement right now.” He went on, saying “But everyone has to retire at some point. I wanted to make clear that we are preparing for that.” So there you once again have it, Shigeru has absolutely no plans of retiring yet.

  2. I wonder what it could be. A completely new ip, probably unrelated to anything Nintendo has done. I hope it’s awesome.

    • I have faith that Shigeru will provide gamers with another great franchise. Considering that Pikmin was really his last ‘original’ game, I think he’s due for another epic.

I’d love to see something as awesome as Zelda! :P

      • Be nice if he’d step to the M spectrum. He could make a fantastic one.

        • He mentioned that he wanted to stick to games that avoided realistic graphics, but I’d love to see him take a crack at an ‘M Rated’ property.

  3. New smash bros charachter

    • If I could, I would totally ‘like’ this comment.
