If you've been following the ongoing Team Ico saga, then this news should not really come as a terrible surprise. Fans of artistic expression in videogames rejoice, as Japanese game mag Famitsu is reporting that Sony has confirmed to them that Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus will be released in HD on the PlayStation 3.

While Sony is still not willing to confirm a specific release date, the fact is that they've finally admitted that they're giving us what we've been asking for since the release of the God of War Collection.

In addition to Sony's confirmation, a Swedish game site has posted what appears to be box art for the upcoming bundle. No word on whether it's a fan-made knock-off or the real deal. For what it's worth, it looks legit.

Team Ico Collection Box Art

So take the box art with a grain of salt, but we do know that regardless of packaging, the games will be coming to our PS3s. If any of you out there never got around to playing either of the two Team Ico titles, then believe us when we tell you that you missed out. The games were even important enough to make it into our look back at the PlayStation's greatest moments. There are no more excuses, and if the price listed by Wal Mart is accurate, this is a must-buy.

If there is one studio that I wish had released more titles to date, it would undoubtedly be Team Ico, and I'm sure many of you agree. These games came out more than 5 years ago, yet they are two of the most frequently mentioned when trying to make a case against the need for guns or violence in games. And with studio head Fumita Ueda's next project The Last Guardian to be showcased at the Tokyo Game Show, many of us here at Game Rant are hoping that lightning can strike three times.

Either way, early rumours have been confirmed, and that's good news all around. Will you PS3 owners be picking this up now that you can start saving up for real? Or will you PS2 loyalists continue laughing at our internet-connected, Blu-ray-playing, Ico-and-Colossus-lacking machines of the future?

[Update: The official PlayStation Blog has confirmed that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are headed the the PlayStation 3 on a single Blu-Ray Disc... in Spring 2011. On top of that, the games will feature full HD and 3d (that's right 3D) compatibility] Source: PlayStation Blog
