The open-world pirate sub-genre has been slowly gathering steam over the last few years. Thanks to games like Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Sea Of Thieves, pirate games have become more and more mainstream. Sea Of Thieves has managed to become one of the best open-world games on PC, not just for its graphics but for the world.

As a live service game, players of Sea Of Thieves can manage a crew with their friends to sail the open sea. Players have been asking and the developers, Rare, listened. Earlier this month, Sea Of Thieves launched a mode called Adventures. The first one adventure is named Shrouded Islands, and is a time-based narrative-driven experience for gamers to play with their friends. Because it's a new mode, this list will give players an idea of what to expect from the new changes, making gameplay much easier.

5 More Common Ghost Fleets

While these Ghost Fleets only happen randomly and infrequently, it becomes more rewarding when players have to fight them more often and win. Ghost Fleets appear around certain islands within the game's open world. Players will know where they will appear by the shape that appears in the sky, which bears the head of Capitan Flameheart. Once players travel to that island, the fleet will appear when they get close, and there will be three waves of ghost fleet ships players will need to fend off. If players manage to overcome these powerful ships, they must then face Capitan Flameheart's ship, The Burning Blade.

With these events happening more often, players can level up faster, because these events yield many experience points. This allows players to unlock more things for their ship and unlock rare items like better weapons. New players should to capitalize on these events to level fast. For seasoned players, it's a great chance to improve their skills so that during non-event time, taking down these fleets will be easier.

4 Sea Of The Damned

This is where players' pirate avatars go when they die, and wait to respawn back into the main part of Sea Of Thieves. However, during the Shrouded Islands campaign, much of the atmosphere and setting present in the Sea of the Damned been brought over into the real world. Now players can witness the fog that blankets the Sea Of The Damned's world being brought over, making things more intense.

With the fog being so dense, players can ram into an island without noticing, or stumble into an enemy ship trigging a fight. Whatever the case, players new and old should stay alert when sailing in these foggy waters. Additionally, the enemies present in the fog are also present, making combat a little more challenging.

All these factors considered, players should, in general, do the Shrouded Islands event with a full crew. The Sea Of The Damned coming over and changing the landscape of the game is probably the biggest change in this new mode, and hopefully will drive players to want to try out the event.

3 Chapters

These new Adventures are story-driven, and are affected by what the player does. Simultaneously, they affect the world for a short time, and will have a long-term effect on the story of Sea Of Thieves itself. Shrouded Island is the first part of these chapters and a part of a bigger picture, which makes it a good reason for players both new and old to give Sea Of Thieves a go. Each chapter offers something new, with new points to look out for and new stories that force the player and the crew to work together.

The space between each chapter allows players time to breathe, and to come back when there are new things being offered. The chapters also give Sea Of Thieves a better structure in terms of story. On top of that, each event can cast a wider net, allowing more players to try the game for the first time.

2 It's Running For Two Weeks

This may be an issue for many players who can't put aside much time for Sea Of Thieves. However, the while it's a short time, players can have the help of their crew to explore and look for the new things. The campaign for the first chapter isn't that long either, provided players have one other person to help them out. It becomes an easier task to manage, because going through each story point can be a chore depending on how much the player has leveled up.

Outside the main story, players explore and stumble upon the new treasure that came along with Shrouded Island. By chance alone, players could complete all the side objectives. Two weeks won't seem that long if players put the time into it. Many treasures and items may be brought over to the next event (as is done in many online games), so if players miss the two-week mark, they can always try for the next one.

1 Community Driven

One of the most appealing things about these new adventures in Sea Of Thieves is that the player's actions affect the world. The major plot points of the story are created by players voting on what happens, based on their actions. The community gets to decide on the direction, because they spent the time and invested in the world.

With each new chapter, a bunch of new things will happen. Players' ability to influence what happens in each chapter is one of the best parts of Sea Of Thieves. Many games in the same category set road map and follow it; however, in this case, that road map is more of a framework for players to fill and choose where the story goes.

Sea Of Thieves is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
