You’ve most likely seen the trailer for the upcoming Michael Cera flick, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. What you may not know is that the movie is based off of a popular comic book series, and not only is there a film adaptation on it’s way but, with the help of Ubisoft, a video game too! Take a look a the two-minutes plus of classic side-scrolling beat-down action.
The game rings true to the art of the comic book, which is created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and published by Oni Press. From the footage, you can see the nostalgic graphical feel of old school side-scrollers, but with obvious enhancements and details. The gameplay follows suit to the premise of the story – Scott Pilgrim fighting Ramona Flowers’ evil exes so he, himself, can date her. Additionally, the soundtrack will be orchestrated by Anamanaguchi – an 8-bit rock group who, in addition to their own material, created the theme for Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist podcast.
The Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World game is something I am definitely looking forward to. The comic book is one of my favorite reads – a healthy mix of humor, relationships, action and pop culture. After watching the gameplay, I can’t wait to get my hands on the title and dive in. I’m optimistic that it will be satisfying to be in control of a story I enjoy, in the form of a video game. Let’s hope we get some more details at E3 this coming week!
Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World will hit the PSN this August as a timed-exclusive, and will be on the Xbox Live Arcade at a later date, TBD. Five volumes of the comic are in stores now, with the sixth and final coming out July 20th and the movie will be in theaters August 13th.
Have you read the comic? Are you looking forward to the game and/or the movie?
