While Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 will certainly be battling each other this fall season for the title of most “awesome” release, another unexpected title has thrown its hat into the ring with a new trailer. Long considered a throwaway, humorous property, Saints Row: The Third wants gamers to know that not only is this a title with wit, but one that is better than its competitors.

In fact this new trailer for Saints Row: The Third combines many of the styles that are implored in the Battlefield and Modern Warfare trailers, only with a twist. EA might have spent the better part of six months poking fun and dissing Modern Warfare 3, but it never even came close to what THQ has put together.

In the trailer, aside from delivering many a chuckle-worthy moment, viewers are treated to a closer look at the STAG (the Special Tactical Anti-Gang unit). STAG has its sights trained on both the Third Street Saints and its competition, the Syndicate, and wants to ensure their underhanded dealings come to a close.

Here’s the trailer:

If you were unable to catch the clever nods to both the Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 make sure to go back and view their reveal trailers as well. But more importantly it’s great to see another facet of the Saints Row: The Third experience.

We’ve seen some of the open world sandbox gameplay, as well as some of the more linear scenarios, but this trailer features a combination of the two. STAG is obviously much more advanced, technologically, than anything the Saints have faced before, expect for perhaps the Deckers, but one has to imagine the Saints are more than up to the challenge.

Also make sure to check out the first two editions of the Saints Row: The Third Cherished Memories series, they’re pretty entertaining.

Which of the several opposing forces the Saints will be up against are you most excited about taking down? Are there any gamers out there who would opt for Saints Row: The Third over Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3?

Saints Row: The Third releases November 15, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
