Super Smash Bros Wii U Rumored Release Date

Despite the fact that the new Super Smash Bros. title is currently available in Japan, fans the world over are stuck waiting until October rolls around so they can get their hands on the game for the Nintendo 3DS. While gamers are busy looking over the final roster that awaits them in the latest installment, those that prefer home console fighters have remained without any updates on when to expect the Wii U version of Nintendo's all-star beat 'em up.

Outside of informing consumers that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be arriving at some point during Holiday 2014, very little has been said about the game's imminent release. Now it appears that the highly anticipated title's release dated has possibly been outed by the North American retail giant Fred Meyer.

Pictures of a pre-order card that has only begun to rollout in the mega-mart indicate that fans can mark November 21, 2014 on their calendars as the day they can expect to see a menagerie of gaming mascots wail on each other on Nintendo's current home hardware.

This information originated from Twitter user BluesDriveBuster who has since indicated that he's an employee at the retailer. These cards were said to be on display, but allegedly the store received a memo from Nintendo shortly after the cards arrived stating that they can't yet be put up in stores until it gives the go-ahead.

Super Smash Bros Wii U Fred Meyer Release Date

If this is true, then this means that the Big N will be launching Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the exact same day as it does Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS. If that's the case, then fans of both series could be looking at a situation reminiscent of Ninty launching The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Super Mario 3D World and Mario Party: Island Tour on the exact same day (November 22, 2013 to be exact).

Since the Wii U iteration of the beloved fighting franchise will likely be the version of choice for competitive players (thanks largely to the fact that it will support GameCube controllers), there are plenty of fans that are eagerly awaiting its arrival on the platform. November 21st also doesn't sound like a farfetched release possibility, but it should be noted that the card itself indicates that the release date could change – as is usually the case for any video game.

As with any retail listing that's not already been confirmed by the publisher, fans should take this information with a grain of salt. That said, it'd be nice to finally know when to expect the hotly anticipated fighting game on Wii U.

Do you think November 21, 2014 will be the day we finally see Super Smash Bros. for Wii U arrive in North America? Let us know in the comments!
