For the past year, rumors have been swirling about Ubisoft's next Assassin's Creed game, with the prevailing theory being that the next game is set to release this fall with the a Viking setting and the title Assassin's Creed Ragnarok. The long-rumored game still hasn't been announced, but listings for it recently leaked on GameStop and Amazon websites, indicating that it's quite likely the real deal. Now another leak about the game has appeared online, potentially revealing a ton of gameplay details.

This latest Assassin's Creed Ragnarok leak originated on 4chan, so fans should take it with a massive grain of salt. That being said, enough legitimate video game leaks have come from 4chan, so the claims can't be completely ignored.

According to the latest leak, Assassin's Creed Ragnarok will be a cross-gen title, looking to release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It will reportedly launch on September 29 of this year, with a 4-player co-op feature that has been compared to Ghost Recon Wildlands. Like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, players have the choice between a male or female character, who will be named Jora. Co-op players take on the role of Jora's companions in co-op.

Assassin's Creed Ragnarok will supposedly have an increased focus on RPG mechanics, though this time around things will be more class-based. A weapon upgrade system will be in place, in addition to weapon durability. The iconic Assassin's Creed hidden blade is said to be making its return, but will have more customization options this time around along with its own upgrades. Combat will focus on parrying and difficulty will come from timing parries correctly as opposed to giving enemies a lot of health. Players will also have a Berserker Mode at their disposal that allows them to activate magical powers, with examples given including fire, frost, and lightning damage.

Assassin's Creed Ragnarok will reportedly bring back the sailing mechanics that have been in the series in some capacity since Assassin's Creed 3, but with a higher focus on exploration as opposed to combat. Exploration will also involve some new parkour mechanics.

Other standard Assassin's Creed mechanics will be getting an upgrade as well according to the leak, with players now having physical stealth skills like hiding in mud and snow. Players will once again be able to hide in crowds, but only if they are wearing the appropriate attire. Player reputation will also vary based on what town they're in, and things done during quests can sway public opinion. Reaching a certain level of reputation with a particular region will be required for Assassin's Creed Ragnarok players to unlock certain quests.

The leak goes on to say that Conquest battles are back in the game, and players can also find battles between warring kingdoms happening dynamically throughout the game world. Settlements in the world can be captured in exchange for various rewards, and players will also be able to organize "large scale raids" of places like forts and cities.

Leveling up in Assassin's Creed Ragnarok has been compared to Skyrim, with players earning XP by improving certain skills. Special abilities will be unlocked by improving skills enough, though there are still skill points in the game. Some skills will also be locked behind story progression.

While players are out leveling up their Assassin's Creed Ragnarok character, they will have a "massive map" to explore that will encompass "all of northern Europe." Specific cities mentioned by the leaker's source include York, London, Paris, and Kiev.

So the question is, can any of this information be trusted? As previously stated, fans should take this latest Assassin's Creed Ragnarok rumor with a grain of salt. However, the leaker said that the game would be revealed alongside the PS5 during the rumored PS5 reveal event in February, so we won't have to wait too much longer to find out if there's any truth to these claims.

Assassin's Creed Ragnarok is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
