Rocksteady’s Next Game is Something ‘Exciting’ & ‘Different’

Rocksteady Studios New Game

One of 2011′s game of the year contenders, Batman: Arkham City, proved that the comic book video game genre can be done right. Like Batman: Arkham Asylum before it, Rocksteady Studios’ sequel won the love of fans and critics alike, leaving us all with one burning question: What’s next?

Would Rocksteady work on an even bigger Batman: Gotham City and open the world to a Grand Theft Auto style sandbox with vehicles? Would they take on another DC superhero and try to bring back Superman to the mainstream gaming scene? Or, as some rumors would suggest, could they be working on an entirely new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game despite denying such claims?

While another Batman game is inevitable, it may not be what Rocksteady Studios is working on as their next project. In interviews, Rocksteady execs have been very vague on the subject, even going as far as hinting that something else could be in the works, including most recently with IGN in their brief chat at the BAFTAs on Friday where Batman: Arkham City took home the awards for Best Action. Batman: Arkham City director Sefton Hill responding to a question about a follow-up game:

“For us it’s a privilege to work with Batman. It’s always been something amazing for us. It’s great to be in such a position that we can kind of choose what we want to do next. We’ve started work on it, and it’s something pretty exciting. That’s one thing we can definitely say. We’re really excited about it.”

When asked about when we’ll hear about the next game the London-based studio is working on, Hill said “soon” and that, “it’s really cool, and it’s something a bit different. It’s really going to excite people.”

Along with the Batman film franchise seeing the end of director Christopher Nolan’s trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises this summer, both Superman and our favorite mutant turtles are getting the feature film treatment next year, adding more credence to possibility of movie tie-in games being developed.

Regardless of what their next project is, they did say it would be dependent on the success of Arkham City and we’re very excited to see what creativity will be employed if the devs take on another property. If it’s Gotham City though, give us the Batmobile! We’ll likely know by E3 2012 this summer.

  1. Looking forward to it!

    • I hope before any other superhero game, they make another Arkham. Arkham city was amazing, but they should really focus on the Arkham asylum creepy feeling but strengthen it like an hard intense killer croc mission or a hard ‘peeing the pants’ scary scarecrow mission like in Asylum but scarier, creep people out. They showed hints to a new one in Arkham city. over all they are the best game developers and should do all hero games.

  2. i think they should leave gotham city for a next gen console, the possibilities would be EPIC!!
