Though developer Rockstar Games isn't exactly the type of developer that one associates with needing any help in the creativity department, they may just be looking for a little assistance on their forthcoming next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto 5. According to a rumor, Rockstar has enlisted the help of 2K Czech, developers on the Mafia series, for help with some general gameplay elements and animations.

It might seem weird, the idea of two competing developers working together, but in fact both 2K Czech and Rockstar work under the Take-Two banner, making them competitors and fellow employees at the same time. And Grand Theft Auto, while very similar to Mafia, has always carried a lighter tone than 2K Czech's series.

Though Mafia II might not have been the Grand Theft Auto competitor that 2K Czech originally intended it to be, it definitely succeeded in a lot of areas that even Rockstar aren't capable of succeeding in. Now, with the two developers working in coordination, the assumption is that 2K Czech will assist Rockstar with Grand Theft Auto 5 in "animations for cutscenes and general gameplay" and Rockstar will help 2K Czech make their next Mafia game better.

Although, the last time Rockstar worked with a developer that was known for also delivering open-world titles (Team Bondi) that didn't end quite so well. Hopefully, since 2K Czech has already established themselves as their own entity in the next-gen space, the developer will be able to survive.

It's also important to point out that, based on the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5, the game won't feel any less like a Rockstar property than Red Dead Redemption or Bully, but might feature a few tweaks to in areas that Rockstar tends to struggle with like character movement and interaction with objects. Maybe if things go well, Rockstar and 2K Czech can work together on Mafia III.

How do you feel about Rockstar turning to 2K Czech for some sort of assistance on Grand Theft Auto 5? Would Rockstar help Mafia 3 be better, or just turn it into Grand Theft Auto: Italy?
