A new gaming petition picked up plenty of momentum over the last few days and seems to be on par for getting Blizzard to add a homage to Robin Williams within the realm of World of Warcraft. The revered comedian passed away this week in an apparent suicide, prompting his many fans to re-watch old movies, share inspiring quotes, and trade off some of his old jokes. The petition is asking for an in-game Robin Williams to share some of those same jokes, immortalizing him forever within He often joked about his WoW addiction but also about the reactions he'd get from other gamers when he admits he plays the game. Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian. Many have expressed a wish to this character perform some of Williams best jokes within the Worlds End Tavern, so that he may continue making us smile long after his passingWorld of Warcraft in a respectful gesture.

Robin Williams was found deceased at his home in Tiburon, California at the age of 63. A beloved actor with countless hits in the film industry, his on-screen antics made him a popular star for legions of fans across the world. Whether is was voicing Genie from Aladdin, inspiring students in Dead Poets Society, or providing companionship in Good Will Hunting, many have held the star close in their hearts.

Williams was an avid fan of World of Warcraft, and gaming in general (his daughter's name is Zelda), so placing him within this medium is a gesture that would make sense. When someone tweeted at a technical game designer from Blizzard on whether they're seen the petition and if they were considering it, they responded that 'they were taking care of it'.

Robin Williams

World of Warcraft has been involved with plenty of celebrities, ranging from the likes of Mr. T, William Shatner, Verne Troyer and Chuck Norris - but this may be the first time a celebrity has been added posthumously based on fan request.

The petition itself goes on to explain that a character made in honor of Williams would help show respect for what he'd done within the gaming community, and would be a great touch for someone who was an avid player himself:

He often joked about his WoW addiction but also about the reactions he'd get from other gamers when he admits he plays the game. Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian. Many have expressed a wish to this character perform some of Williams best jokes within the Worlds End Tavern, so that he may continue making us smile long after his passing

It's likely Blizzard will approach his family and estate to make sure such a gesture would be allowed before they announce anything. With fiery corgis and a new expansion on the way, it's good to know Blizzard still has time to dedicate on gestures like this.

What do you think about Robin Williams being included in World of Warcraft, Ranters? Do you approve of this homage to one of the greatest comedians, or would you prefer there be a fine line between real life and the game?
