Those that pre-order Rise of the Tomb Raider from GameStop will receive the Holy Fire Card Pack as a bonus, which includes infinite flaming arrows and exploding chickens.

Gamers that have decided to pre-order Rise of the Tomb Raider from GameStop already knew that they were receiving the Apex Predator DLC pack as a bonus, but now they can look forward to receiving the Holy Fire Card Pack as well.

In Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Holy Fire Card Pack allows players to equip various fire-themed perks and upgrades to Lara. It includes five perks in total, some of which will drastically alter the way that players experience the game.

Firstly, there's the Blazing Inferno card. When this is equipped, Lara will have access to an infinite amount of flaming arrows. There's also the Backfire card, which, when equipped, sometimes makes enemies burst into flames when they land a melee attack on Lara.

The Lucky card increases the rate of rare loot drops by defeating enemies, and the Holy Fire card causes enemies defeated by melee attacks to explode, igniting any foes unlucky enough to be caught in the explosion. While those are all interesting, arguably the most exciting perk is the one that allows Lara to pick up wild chickens and toss them at enemies, after which they explode like hand grenades. This amusing card is called Chicken Bomb.

Retailer exclusive pre-order bonuses are nothing new in the gaming industry, and with video game pre-orders on the rise, they aren't going anywhere any time soon. However, they do tend to rub gamers the wrong way, and including Rise of the Tomb Raider's already controversial Expedition Card microtransactions as a pre-order bonus has potential to draw even more negative attention to the game.

Overall, Rise of the Tomb Raider seems like a bittersweet game to many people. Having a sequel to the excellent Tomb Raider reboot is great, but its Xbox timed-exclusivity and microtransactions have upset some fans. Furthermore, it's unclear if the individual cards that make up the Holy Fire Card Pack can be gained naturally in-game or if the only way to access them is to pre-order the game from GameStop.
