At The Game Awards 2022, yet another PlayStation exclusive was announced to be coming to PC next year. This game will be Housemarque's third-person shooter roguelike Returnal which first released as a PS5 exclusive in April 2021. This announcement was anticipated given that recently updated Steam data and several leaks strongly suggested that Returnal would be announced for PC.

Sony has continued its commitment to bring more of its exclusives to PC over the past several years. Titles such as the 2018 God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Marvel's Spider-Man released on PC with resounding success, showing that there is a strong market for PlayStation properties in the PC space. Though Returnal developer Housemarque has a history of releasing games on the PC platform, Returnal will be its first PS5 exclusive to be ported to PC.

Previous leaks and a recent Steam update strongly suggested that the game would be coming to PC though no formal announcement had been made. That changed at yesterday's premiere of The Game Awards 2022 in which Returnal was formally announced for PC with a new trailer showcasing the game's fast-paced combat. Though the trailer did not show a release date, the description of the trailer on YouTube states the game will come to PC early 2023.

Returnal was not the only PlayStation exclusive to be announced for PC at The Game Awards 2022. Later on in the show, the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 was announced to be launching on March 3, 2023. Although there is still some ambiguity on when Returnal will release for PC, it can be inferred that it will likely be spaced out from The Last of Us Part 1 as previous PlayStation PC ports have generally launched in separate months from each other.

Over the past few years, PlayStation exclusives have continuously been ported to PC, but some experienced far more success than others. Sackboy: A Big Adventure released on PC this past October, but performed significantly worse with player counts in the hundreds compared to God of War which had tens of thousands of players on PC. Inferences can be made on why this disparity in player counts happened, but it does call into question just how well a game like Returnal will do on PC. Only time will tell on whether the latest title from Housemarque will reach the chart-topping numbers of past PlayStation exclusives.

Returnal is available now for PS5 and will launch for PC in early 2023.
