From Screen Rant:

The first official images for Resident Evil: Afterlife have premiered online and if you're a fan of the franchise, you'll be excited to see what they depict.

If you're a fan of the Resident Evil games, you have no doubt played Resident Evil 5, the best selling title of the franchise. The main (and coolest) villain in the game is Albert Wesker and one of his epic fight sequences plays out almost exactly like the above image with him tossing his shades at Chris Redfield and partner before they enter an awesome battle.

We know the film is the first in the franchise jumping into the fad of 3D and that it's introducing some major characters from the Resident Evil video game franchise, not yet seen in the movies. While you may frown at the thought of this coming in 3D, it was planned that way from the beginning and there could be some sense of relief that it's being done by the team behind Avatar's 3D.

If director Paul W.S. Anderson has done his homework and played some RE5 (obviously he has), we could be seeing some incredible action sequences in Afterlife. I really hope that's the case. On that note, the giant executioner still (click through the pages for the other new images) is also directly lifted from the games and looks perfect.

I'm pleasantly surprised by these images, especially since when Resident Evil: Afterlife was announced, my report on it stated that instead of their usual story paths, they should instead make a film based on the game Resident Evil 5 and these photos show that at least visually and with the characters, they have some definite similarities.

Albert Wesker is played by Canadian actor Shawn Roberts, Alice is played by Milla Jovovich, Chris and Claire Redfield are played by Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) and Ali Larte (Heroes) respectively.

If you're a Resident Evil fan then stay tuned into Screen Rant as the first official trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife debuts this Saturday and we'll definitely have it to share. Go through the pages to see the other new still!

What do you think of the images? Looking better than the last two films, no?

After switching release dates (again), Resident Evil: Afterlife hits theaters September 10, 2010.
