The number six has often been seen as an unlucky number - often associated with pure evil. Resident Evil 6 reinforced that idea by delivering one of the most divisive experiences in series history (read our review). Apparently, Capcom didn't seem to get the memo. Even after industry-wide criticism (and making our list of worst sequels ever), Capcom still hasn't given up on the floundering title - which sold far below expectations.

In what appears to be a last-ditch effort to rake in some cash before moving it out to pasture, Capcom has joined forces with Valve to create some additional content for the upcoming PC release.

In an ironic twist, Valve's Left 4 Dead 2, which is all about zombies, will be adding content from their game to a series that has been steadily steering itself away from zombies. Since the PC edition of Resident Evil 6 will be released on Steam, it's safe to assume Valve just wanted to help drum up some business - perhaps even taking pity on the former kings of survival horror - while getting a little attention for their own title. That said, don't get too excited unless you're a big fan of Mercenaries mode, which is the only way to play all of Left 4 Dead 2's lead cast: Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle. Each will have customized weapon load-outs - and coming along for the ride are the Witch and Mini Tank zombie-types who will join the list of Resident Evil 6 monsters.

It's not all about Capcom, however, Valve is getting a piece of the action as well. Owners of the PC version Left 4 Dead 2 will have the ability to download Resident Evil 6 baddies Lopotitsa, Padad and Ortoman - releasing sometime this Spring.

Regarding the team-up, Valve's Chet Faliszek said, “We’re huge Resident Evil fans, so when the opportunity arose to work directly with Capcom to combine L4D2 and RE6, we jumped at it.Resident Evil 6's Producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, added: “The Resident Evil 6 team really enjoyed working on this crossover, and we’re confident that our fans will have a great time with it too! We hope you enjoy this unique content.

So everyone is really happy about the project and seems to be putting some work into it - which is encouraging. But whether you're anticipating this crossover content or not - at this point, it appears to be a complimentary update. According to Capcom, the Resident Evil 6 content will "automatically be downloaded in the background" for all PC version owners.

Resident Evil 6 will see it's PC release on March 22, 2013, with the Valve crossover content available for download on April 5, 2013.
