You don’t own a 3DS? What’s wrong with you? That’s what Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime is literally asking in the first edition of Nintendo Direct: public one on one videos addressed directly to the gaming public (except you non-3DS owning jerks). Just kidding, it’s actually geared more toward non-owners than anyone else, but all those with wallets are welcomed.

The holiday season is right around the corner and Nintendo wants to give some incentive to those who are debating on what to spend their hard earned money on or what to relentlessly pester their parents to buy.

This first installment focuses mainly on the 3DS, talking heavily about its 3D capabilities while ironically not in 3D. The video crams as much as it can in seven minutes, touching on the slim library 3DS titles already available, soon to be released updates, new eShop games, exclusive videos, Hulu Plus and eventually moving onto its upcoming holiday releases.

Nintendo recently announced that Hulu Plus is coming to 3DS, but Reggie expands on this a bit. He notes that the current seasons of Dancing With The Stars, Modern Family and Glee will be available to watch. Shows not often discussed in gaming forums, but popular with families. It appears to be an attempt by Nintendo to catch up to its competitors as home media center devices, adding this to its already Netflix capable systems. Still no YouTube, unfortunately.

At the end of November is a system update for the 3DS that will enable 3D video recording, tacked onto the 3D picture taking already available. New puzzles and challenges will also be added to the Street Pass Plaza, giving purpose again to bringing your 3DS everywhere you go. If this still isn’t a big sell, Reggie promises a library of 3D videos available to download including an exclusive video: Thriller, the classic Michael Jackson video involving the walking dead, starring the characters of Shrek, a franchise coincidentally done to death.

The eShop will bring four new downloadable titles to the 3DS: Freakyforms, Pushmo, Dillon’s Rolling Western and Swapnote, a game that allows you to create fun notes for friends sent through Spot Pass and Street Pass.

The video finishes by building anticipation for its holiday heavy hitters: Pokemon Rumble Blast, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

While Reggie may not be the best spokesperson for this series of videos as he can be a bit awkward at times, the part about recording your brother drooling in his sleep being particularly cringe-worthy. It is somewhat refreshing to see an important figure at Nintendo taking time out to be so personal with its consumers even if it is just an extended sales video. Here’s hoping the holiday season breathes new life into a system that is lacking the panache a price drop can’t solve on its own. If it doesn't, then the problem might not lie with us, Reggie.
