Twitch gives fans the opportunity to show dedication to their favorite streamers by allowing the purchase of channel subscriptions, which both provide financial support to content creators and give fans access to various benefits. Although different from Twitch, in terms of the services that it offers, Reddit is now trying out its own Twitch-like subscriptions, and they come with similar benefits and monthly fees.

Normally a venue for internet frequenters to discuss a variety of topics across a plethora of forums, Reddit isn't typically associated with streaming. However, the company has clearly taken note of livestreaming company Twitch's subscription service, and it may be looking to offer Reddit members the opportunity to join sub-communities at a monthly cost.

Twitch currently offers three tiers of subscriptions. The base subscription costs $4.99 per month, the next tier runs at $9.99 per month, and the last tier costs $24.99 a month. The company is now one of the most popular video streaming companies, as indicated by the fact that Twitch has garnered an audience more expansive than HBO or Netflix.

FortNiteBR Special Membership - Reddit

Reddit is looking to test out something similar. ResetEra user Gowans recently noticed this when they came across an opportunity to subscribe to the Fortnite: Battle Royale Reddit forum. Called the "FortNiteBR Special Membership," this subscription costs $4.99 a month, the same amount as Twitch's base subscription. According to the ResetEra user, the subscription service appears to only be in testing on the Fortnite: Battle Royale forum. Furthermore, they state that the benefits offered by the membership include a highlighted username, badges, and emotes. These are strikingly similar to some of the benefits offered by Twitch.

This move by Reddit may come off as a bit unusual. Without the added benefit of showing devotion to one's favorite streaming personality, it makes one ponder the value of being able to discuss Fortnite in a more personalized way. Of course, if Gowans is correct, then this is still just the trial period, and there may be more to come.

Furthermore, it makes sense for a Fortnite forum to the be the proverbial guinea pig, as it has traditionally been one of the most watched games on Twitch, even if Fortnite viewership was recently surpassed by League of Legends. However, the success of this program will most likely come down to the desire of the Fortnite Reddit community members to have ways to stand out and make impressions in the online discussion of Fortnite.
