Red Orchestra 2 GOTY

Out of all the games that came out in 2011, Dead Island and Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad offered a multitude of content for gamers to sink their teeth into. Those who have yet to pick up either title should hold out just a bit longer, as GOTY editions for both titles have just been announced!

Red Orchestra 2 is the sequel to the tactical shooter by Tripwire Interactive, and also received a glowing review from Game Rant. The GOTY content will be delivered as a free title update, and will bring new features that will appeal to both new and old players. However, Tripwire hasn't forgotten about those who already own the game, and will make the update available to all players. It's great to see a developer go this route, instead of charging extra for the content, sure they might not make as much upfront, but the bonus PR will likely pay off in the long run.

If you're still on the fence about the game, there will be a free Steam weekend, starting this Thursday, May 24th, 2012. The content pack will launch prior to the free weekend, and brings with it two new game modes, "Action" and "Classic". "Action" will help ease new players into the game, giving them a crosshair and reduced recoil, while "Classic" will bring gameplay changes to better emulate the original Red Orchestra. Included is a new map titled Mamayev Kurgan, which includes plenty of spots for long and close range combat. Lastly, the update will bring a number of gameplay enhancements meant to improve the performance of the title - and all for free.

While Red Orchestra 2 provided PC gamers with a hardcore hyper-realistic shooter, Dead Island gave both console and PC gamers an RPG full of creative zombie killing. The game didn't strike a chord with us at first, but after the bug fixes it became much more enjoyable.

The Dead Island GOTY Edition will release June 26th, 2012, and comes packed with the Bloodbath Arena and Ryder White's Campaign DLC. In addition, players will also receive access to the blueprints for the Ripper weapon-mod. To top it off, the GOTY Edition will release for the price of $29.99 USD - not a bad deal considering the standard edition can be found for the same amount right now.

If you have yet to purchase either of these titles, will the GOTY Editions provide more incentive?

Red Orchestra 2's GOTY update is scheduled to launch before Thursday, May 24th, 2012, exclusively on PC.

Dead Island's GOTY Edition will launch June 26th, 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
