Many gamers turned a blind eye to Red Faction: Guerilla when it first was released not knowing how different it was from any previous entry in the franchise. Now that the game has had time to marinate in the minds of those who finally gave it a chance, there is a ton of anticipation for the forthcoming Red Faction: Armageddon. Unfortunately, and maybe as punishment for not discovering the game sooner, THQ has delayed the game until May 2011.

With no word as to the reason for the game’s delay, speculation at this point could run the gamut from needing more polish to the inclusion of new features. As one of my anticipated games of next year, I have complete faith that this extra bit of time will make for a tighter overall experience.

Red Faction: Armageddon’s most exciting new feature is its Geo Mod 2.0 physics engine based weapons. The Magnet weapon allows players to cause two items to rip free of their structures to become magnetically linked to one another. If nothing else I am sure I will spend a good amount of my time magnetizing every object I can to see in what cool ways I can destroy buildings, enemies, etc…

In a lot of ways THQ and developer Volition missed the mark with Guerilla in terms of market awareness and plan not to repeat their mistake with Armageddon. With an XBLA and PSN game planned before the release of the main game, there should be plenty of content available to bring awareness up. Perhaps the rumored Red Faction movie will see an uptick in news as we near the latter half of 2011 in hopes of striking while the gold is hot.

For now, with nothing more than a couple gameplay trailers and a vague release date, Red Faction fans can only imagine the ways in which they will remodel the surface and underground of Mars.
