People like a bit of variety when it comes to the color of their consoles, even though only a handful of options are made available during a platform's lifespan. To make up for this, however, controllers get a wider range of options, consisting of all kinds of colors. Admittedly, some of these come from third-party makers, but the official ones don't do too badly themselves.

With the PS4, which comes in Glacier White and the standard Jet Black, its controller color scheme has been limited to four variants - the two previously mentioned colors to match their systems, along with Wave Blue and Urban Camouflage controller color options. It's a decent set, but definitely leaves much to be desired. And probably has many wondering if the PS4 itself will get another color makeover down the road that isn't part of a game's launch.

Until then, though, players will have to settle for the small selection of DualShock 4 controllers, which will soon increase to five. Sony, via the PlayStation Twitter account, just announced a Magma Red controller set to release this Summer. We thought they had already revealed this new color last year, but either way, a Summer release is pretty appropriate when you think about it - Red and Summer are usually associated with heat.

Additionally, as noted by IGN, Japan's been able to enjoy the new option for a while now, so it's about time the US was able to do the same.

Eager PS4 owners can pre-order the new controller now through Sony's website, but following the links all the way through eventually leads to a GameStop listing, where it's labeled as a "GameStop Exclusive," with a release date of June 30, 2015. It's unclear how long the Magma Red will stay as such, as Sony neglected to mention that part, and the date could possibly be a simple placeholder. Although, an end of June release would give Sony just enough time to briefly mention it at E3, and maybe shed some light its exclusivity.

Another detail worth noting is the $64.99 price, placing it slightly above the going rate for the current PS4 controller color variations, which is between $49.99 and $59.99. It's sometimes easy to forget that wireless controllers aren't cheap.

Is this new Magma Red DualShock 4 controller something you foresee yourself buying, or are you happy with your current controllers? Which color do you want Sony to add later? Because, really, there are just so many possibilities.
