Red Dead Redemption was one of the most compelling single player experiences to be had on a console this year. But seeing as how Rockstar is a top notch developer they would never have let the fun stop there. Support for the multiplayer side of the game has been coming in on a regular basis by way of some standard forms of DLC and some creative ones. Now comes details on the new 'Stronghold' game mode including with the upcoming 'Liars and Cheats' pack.

Stronghold is a fairly standard multiplayer mode — one utilized to great success in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Two teams of eight work against each other in order to either attack or defend a set of bases. The attacking team has a limited number of respawns and a time limit in which to capture all of the bases while the defending team’s job is to either bring the other team’s respawn count to zero or to prevent the attacking team from capturing all of the bases in the time limit.

It might seem like fairly standard practice to include an attack and defend multiplayer variant in any game but this unique take on the game mode is sure to bring a few cowpokes back to the pastures. While all of the new features that will be arriving with the Liars and Cheats pack sound enticing, the two I am looking forward to most are the Stronghold mode and being able to play Liar’s Dice with a friend. Who knows, you might even see the Longhorn Pennywhistlers at a table trying to call each other’s bluff.

If you haven’t given Red Dead Redemption a chance we highly recommend you do. At first, it might give you trouble and make you want to turn away but if you let the game hit its stride it becomes a truly cinematic experience. Right up until the very end, the gameplay stays varied in a way that makes this the closest to a cowboy sim, and 7 million copies shipped isn't so bad of a number. Do yourself a favor and play this game. Then try out the multiplayer side of things with the 'Liars and Cheats' pack.
