How to Find the Grave of Dutch's Mother

The grave of Dutch's mother, Greta van der Linde, takes players back to the town of Blackwater. Players will likely remember this name from the storyline of Red Dead Redemption 2 as the town in which the Van der Linde gang met with disaster just before the game's events. However because of the strict law enforcement around Blackwater, this grave will be almost impossible to access until deep in the storyline in 1899.

Once players can safely explore the beautiful town of Blackwater, Greta van der Linde's grave can be found in the town cemetery. In the northwest of the town and just on the outskirts is the Chapel of Blackwater. On both sides of this building are rows of graves, some with names while others remain blank. The southern side of the building is where Greta van der Linde is buried.

Be aware, the writing is a bit faded but the grave is relatively distinct. Dutch's mother's headstone rests in the second row of graves and is just a few over from the chapel. On the grave, it mentions that she was a "loving mother to her son, Dutch," and that she lived from 1835 to 1881. This easter egg gives players an interesting insight into the early life of Dutch van der Linde before Red Dead Redemption 2.

When is Dutch's Mother Mentioned?

For those players looking for information as to why this grave is here, they must progress to Red Dead Redemption 2's Chapter 3. At the camp at Clemens Point in Lemoyne, Dutch will offer players a quest to go fishing with himself and Hosea. This quest diverges dramatically as Hosea and Dutch run across a captured former colleague, Trelawny.

Once the release of Trelawny is secured, players have the option to fish with Dutch and Hosea. It is only through choosing to fish that players get the comment on where Greta van der Linde ended up being buried. This is also one of the few moments in which players get a better understanding of the relationship between Dutch and Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
