'Rayman Legends' Making the Jump to Next-Gen Consoles

Ubisoft has confirmed that its zany platformer, 'Rayman Legends', will be making its way to both the Xbox One and PS4 at some point in February 2014.

One of the most thoroughly enjoyable games of 2013 has without a doubt been Ubisoft's Rayman Legends. After jumping ship and abandoning Wii U exclusivity, the title was promptly delayed until this past September, but that didn't stop a majority of critics from instantly falling in love with the quirky platformer's charm, challenge, and overall addictiveness — read Game Rant's review. Although the software failed to move as many units as Ubisoft had hoped, the developer has decided that Rayman and friends should make the jump to next-gen consoles.

During the company's latest earning's call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the title would be arriving on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in February 2014. Guillemot also confirmed that Rayman Legends has sold roughly 1 million units across all hardware to-date, but expects demand for software to increase with the arrival of new consoles leading into the Holiday season.

"The PS4 and Xbox One will be released in a few days’ time and will be a new driving force for the industry. We are confident in our capacity to rise to the short-term challenges posed by the transition phase, thanks to the very high quality of our games, which, combined with the upcoming arrival of the next-generation consoles and the traditional ramp-up of sales during the Christmas season will trigger positive momentum towards the end of the year."

With anticipation reaching a fever-pitch for the arrival of PS4 and Xbox One, and the immense pre-order numbers backing both platforms, Ubisoft's decision to bring Rayman Legends to next-generation systems seems like a sound one. It also puts yet another Ubi-developed title in both consoles' launch windows, and many gamers are well aware that the developer has a very strong reputation for supplying newly released platforms with its games.

Rayman Legends should make the transition nicely to next generation hardware, that said, Ubisoft must plan on enhancing the current experience somehow. It's hard to imagine that these enhancements would appear in the form of better graphics — it is already a very pristine, cartoony world — so perhaps additional levels and costumes could come into play.
