Nintendo's Wii U console started off with a wealth of content, but the months that followed have been short on desired software for early adopters. One of the most highly anticipated third-party exclusives on the console, Rayman Legends, was scheduled to make a splash later this month, but Ubisoft has since confirmed that there's been a change of plans — plans that may very well upset those who've been longing to play the game since the Wii U's launch.

Not only will Rayman Legends now be heading to the Xbox 360 and PS3 (much to the delight of those who own the systems), but Ubi has also delayed the game on Wii U in order to provide consumers with a simultaneous release date across all platforms. Instead of the game's previously scheduled February 26 release, Wii U owners will now be forced to wait until early September to get their hands on Rayman's latest platforming adventure.

The announcement of such a long delay only weeks prior to Legends' planned launch date will come as a shock to many — especially because Ubisoft has had a Rayman Legends demo available on the Wii U eShop since December — but the game's eventual leap to other platforms is not so surprising. Despite reports from Ubisoft claiming that the title would remain exclusive to the Wii U, the recently lowered sales forecast for the platform is a strong sign that the market isn't as large as Nintendo had been hoping it would be at this point in time.

All of this news will come as a significant blow to fans who went out and invested in Nintendo's latest home console, but Ubisoft is just trying to do what's best for business. That said, it's odd that Ubi wouldn't give Wii U owners Rayman Legends as a timed exclusive; especially considering how far along the game was allegedly in development.

Rayman Legends will be launching on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U in early September.
