Insomniac Games may have recently partnered with Microsoft to create the new IP Sunset Overdrive, but most fans recognize the studio as being a partner for Sony through and through. After all, Insomniac brought gamers the iconic character Spyro the Dragon, as well as delivered one of the best action platformers of the PS2 era, Ratchet & Clank.

The popularity of Ratchet & Clank lives on, as the game spawned numerous sequels, spinoffs, and other media, and is now actually set to make the jump to the big screen. In celebration of the film and the franchise, Insomniac has been prepping a remastered version of the first game in the series for PlayStation 4, but now both the film project and the remastered game have been delayed to 2016.

The remastered Ratchet & Clank on PS4 is partly being delayed to coincide with the release of the film. After all, releasing the game close to the movie's theatrical debut certainly has a chance of bolstering game sales. The movie itself is coming out April 29th, 2016, and while the game is now due out vaguely during "Spring 2016", expect its actual release date to be very close to the movie's.

Insomniac isn't just set to rest on their laurels and do nothing during the delay, however. The initial scope of the game has seemingly expanded to be much more ambitious than originally planned, and this delay is giving Insomniac time to improve and polish the game even further. Ryan Schneider, Chief Brand Officer of the studio, says that they will specifically be using this additional time to add, "dazzling shader response, awe-inspiring effects, velvety smooth animations, and spectacular new gameplay segments."

Rest assured, this remastered version of Ratchet & Clank will be much more than just a visual upgrade. Insomniac is planning on adding brand new levels to go along with the aforementioned new gameplay segments and improved graphics, and they are also rebuilding some of the existing levels from the game as well. New weapons are also being added to the experience, and since Ratchet & Clank is known for its insane weapons, it will be fun to see what Insomniac has cooked up this time.

Both the game and the movie will be telling similar stories, explaining the origin of the titular duo of space-faring Lombax, Ratchet, and his miniature robot companion Clank. The film itself recently added Hollywood heavyweights such as John Goodman, Paul Giamatti, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone to its voice cast. The film is set to add new characters to the story for these actors to play (with the exception of Giamatti, who will be playing the role of Chairman Dreck), so perhaps these new characters, and the voice actors playing them, will be added to the remastered version of Ratchet & Clank when it releases next year on PS4.

The Ratchet & Clank movie is just one of the numerous game-to-film projects that Sony currently has in development. Joining R&C is a Sly Cooper film, based on the fellow PS2-era platforming franchise of the same name, as well as an Uncharted movie.

Ratchet & Clank, the remake, will be available on PS4 in Spring of 2016. The film of the same name based on the franchise will release on April 29th, 2016, so expect the game to be available around the same time as well.
