There are a number of gaming franchises currently in Sony's arsenal, but surprisingly some of the bigger properties have yet to make an appearance on the company's PlayStation 4. That will change soon, of course, with the arrival of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End next year, but Sony has officially shown off another fan-favorite series in the form of a new Ratchet & Clank.

To accompany the forthcoming, animated film of the same name, the hotly anticipated Ratchet & Clank game will be arriving in Spring 2016. The game will be a reboot of the series to tie in with the events of the blockbuster film outing, and it's looking rather sharp running on PS4.

Revealed by the Community Lead at Insomniac Games, James Stevenson, via PlayStation.Blog, the new trailer features the titular Lombax and his trusty robot companion as they venture through the various action-packed scenarios. Not content with just the debut trailer, Stevenson detailed the design process that went into making the game and how the end result will be much different than just an HD reskin of the original PS2 title.

"We knew early on that we didn’t want to just up-res Ratchet & Clank for PS2. We started out thinking of Ratchet & Clank on PS4 as a “re-imagining” of the 2002 original, revised to tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet’s origin story (as seen in the film). We envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 games while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games."

Instead of porting the game, Insomniac Games has created a brand new title that draws inspiration from throughout the franchise and compiles it into a universe that corresponds with the upcoming motion picture from Blockade and Rainmaker Entertainment, respectively – although we still aren't sure if Sylvester Stalone or John Goodman will be voicing any characters in-game.

As Stevenson assures fans, there's a lot of new content and weaponry to look forward to.

"We ended up with a new game, with elements based on the original — but now with modern controls, several new planets, new and updated gameplay segments, all-new Clank gameplay, all new boss fights, new flight sequences, and more… all constructed to take advantage of the graphical prowess of PS4."

In closing, Stevenson detailed the pre-order bonus that awaits fans that lay down their cash in advance of Ratchet & Clank's imminent release. The bonus is none other than The Bouncer, a weapon that many will remember from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. Apparently narrowing down legacy weapons to this bad boy was a "no-brainer," and the team at Insomniac couldn't help but choose the weapon which shot bombs, that in turn shot more bouncing, enemy-seeking bombs. Yeah, sounds like a no-brainer to us too.
