Rare Could Work on Future 3DS Games

Banjo Kazooie 3DS

Remember the good old days of Nintendo 64 when Rare and Nintendo had a glorious relationship? We saw classic games like Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, and Conker’s Bad Fur Day come through that relationship, and we were all quite content with those. Then the day came that Rare and Nintendo parted ways and we were left with little but a remake of Conker’s Bad Fur Day and Grabbed by the Ghoulies to keep us satisfied for an entire console generation.

Rare has never really been the same since they went to Microsoft, but the odd thing is that Microsoft still allows the developer to make games for Nintendo’s immensely popular handheld. We’ve seen a remake of Diddy Kong Racing and we’ve also seen the Microsoft owned series Viva Pinata hit the DS, so now that the 3DS is in the hands of devs you have to wonder if we’ll see any more Rare games on the handheld. It’s certainly a possibility if a recent post on Rare’s official blog is accurate.

Q: I have 2 Qeustions 1. Are you going to make another Banjo-Kazooie title fore de DS like you made Banjo-Kazooie Grunty’s Revenge?? 2. Cane you make a Banjo-Kazooie Remake on the DS??

Robin Schuurman

A: Banjo-3DSie confirmed! Although by confirmed I do mean 100% utterly speculative. We haven’t done much in the handheld ’space’ since DKR DS and Pocket Paradise — could we dip our toes in again at some point? Possibly. 3DS? Not for me to say. Bandai WonderSwan? No.

It seems that Robin Shuurman may not consider English as their primary language, but other than that he or she posed a very good question. We have been wondering what games we’d see on the 3DS for quite some time and “Banjo-3DSie” would certainly be a great motivator for people to pick up the new (and expensive) tech. Hopefully Microsoft will allow Rare to bring some of their classic franchises back to a Nintendo console, because they would no doubt sell well with the hardcore and softcore (casual) crowds.

Hopefully Rare will be able to give us something on the 3DS, but at this point fans would more than happily settle for a new Conker’s Bad Fur Day or a Banjo-Threeie on the 360. Please, Rare… it’s all we really want.

What Rare games would you like to see grace the 3DS? How do you think a Rare 3DS game would turn out?

I would call the 3DS an instant buy if they brought Conkers to the front line. Although the Zelda remake is pretty tempting as well.

I think Rare was for a generation that still liked whimsy. For the most part it’s dying nowadays.

      I like whimsy! =)

There is no whimsey in Conker. That is a very adult game.

I loved Rare back in the day. It’d be cool to see a new Conker, Battletoads, Donkey Kong (in the vein of Donkey Kong 64), Killer Instinct, or Perfect Dark.

However, I’d love to see “Banjo-3Die” more than anything!

i really hope the make donkey kong for the 3DS, love that big ape :)

That would be one of the coolest things ever! I would love to see Conker and Banjo-Kazooie too 😀

Heck I would even be happy with another bad fur day port to the 3DS. It would give me an excuse to play it again.

Man I’ll always remember that Rare logo before Killer Instinct. That and Conkers, it’s nice to know at least some of these companies haven’t been bought out or shut down.

There’s plenty of whimsy in Conker, Riley. I invented the language, I should know.

    Robin Shuurman is my hero!

It’s Robin Schuurman, not Shuurman 😛
And please understand that English can be hard for non-native speakers.

    OT: Epic, do want!

Banjo-Threeie is a must. Us fans have been waiting 10 years now and deserve a proper sequal to Banjo-Tooie.

  • Rob

I would really like to see a 3DS version of Donkey Kong Country with a new story that is… still think it’s one of the best games to come out from Rare!

Conker’s bad fur day would be good on the 3ds but it would better on the wii Virtual Console. Also a remake of the conker game on the game boy color.

i think that microsoft would be crazy to stop rare from entering the handheld market. its well known that many rare fans are still playing nintendo consoles, and considering that microsoft is yet to create a hand held, it could be a smart way to profit from that market. Microsoft very well know that there are many people waiting out for new Banjo or Conker, but obviously xbox isnt the right market for this. what gets me, is that rareware were the biggest and most successful PLATFORMER gaming company, and what are they making now KINECT SPORTS???? are you stupid microsoft!!! let them do what you bought them for. 3DS is the answer! or at least some decent new platformers from the company!!!

love this post ^^ microsoft and rare please listen to her lol

  • kenneth miller

i would love to see a remake of banjo kazooie or donkey kong 64 show up on the 3DS

  • Michael grant

please do you have conker bad fur day

  • Merida Dunbroch

I would really like it if Rare and Microsoft made E-rated Conker games for the Conker fans who loved the E-rated Conker. I’m sure there are people are are getting sick and tired of the M-rated Conker already and would like to see him be returned to his E-rated roots.

Conkers! Please bring back conker’s they don’t have to do anything to it. Just remaster the N64 one. Just like Microsoft did with the halo games. I and every other conker’s fan would buy that new game on the spot!
