When it comes to video game releases, Collector's Editions are a mainstay, especially when they're for the bigger games out there. Hundreds of these more expensive editions have been released alongside their standard, $60 counterparts, and many more are set to come in the future - like the ones for Metal Gear Solid 5 and Halo 5: Guardians.

The quality and necessity of a collector's edition varies, unsurprisingly, with some of the packed-in items that range from the ridiculous (see the Bionic Arm for MGS5), to the Pip-Boy in the Fallout 4 collector's edition that we absolutely, totally need. Occasionally, however, one of the bonus items is something practical that can actually be used in a person's day-to-day life. Leave it to Rainbow Six Siege to pull this off, as its own collector's edition comes with a backpack - among other things, of course.

Ubisoft announced and detailed the contents of the upcoming CE earlier this week, and aside from the aforementioned Rainbow Six Siege branded backpack, those that decide to put up the money for this edition will also receive a standard copy of the game itself, the accompanying season pass, access to the beta set for September, and more.

The rest of the goodies contained within the $150 collector's edition are as follows:

  • Steelbox – Designed exclusively for the Collector’s Edition
  • CTU Operators Hat – Flat-brim snapback hat
  • Compass Carabiner – Black and gray carabiner with a compass and bottle opener
  • Operator Backpack – Military-style backpack with a padded laptop pocket. Comes with seven Operator badges that attach to the sides of the backpack with Velcro.
  • Art of the Siege Tactical Guide – Exclusive 120-page guide

The Art of the Siege guide could be the most useful thing players will get their hands on, with regards to playing the game. According to the description of the book, it almost sounds like a strategy guide, and in a game like Siege that encourages people to work together and learn the layouts of the maps they're playing, such a guide could be what gives starting players the edge over the rest come launch day.

As Ubisoft's describes the Siege Guide:

The Art of the Siege Tactical Guide will provide you with all the tips and tricks to give you an edge over your opponents. With advice straight from the development team, the guide highlights each of the Operators and CTUs, weapons, and maps.

It may be part of the collector's edition right now, but it will be interesting to see if the guide will eventually be sold as a standalone product, if only for those that don't have an extra $90 to drop for the entire thing.

Rainbow Six Siege is set to release on October 13, 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Its Collector's Edition is also available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the game, though it may be best to wait until the beta to see if a $150 collector's edition is something you really need.
