PSP E1000 Tech Specs Revealed

This has been the summer of Sony. Not only did they drop the price of their PS3 units, they also scored some exclusive NFL rights – just in time for football season – and announced the new PSP E-1000 in Europe. It’s hard to believe that earlier this year this company was hurting from a hacker attack that crippled their network. While many people have their eyes on the Vita, Sony doesn’t want you to forget their original handheld, the PSP.

Today we have the specs of new PSP model the E-1000. When we brought you news of the E-1000 announcement it was revealed that it'd forgo a wifi connection. A cost cutting measure to make sure the unit stays at the low price of 99.00 Euros. We found out today that wifi isn’t the only thing Sony left out of this new model.

To trim the fat of the PSP, Sony left out one of the speakers, removing the stereo sound. Unless gamers are using headphones, they will be forced to deal with an inferior sound quality, compared to previous models. This isn’t too much of a sacrifice since gamers tend to get a better experience playing handhelds with headphones than the built in speakers anyway.

As stated in a previous post, the PSP E-1000 will be utilizing Sony’s Media Go software which allows gamers to access the PlayStation Store through their PC's. Also, the E-1000 will still have a Memory Stick PRO Duo slot - so gamers will still be able to download the full library of PSP titles. The removal of WiFi and stereo sound should provide a bit more battery life to the unit increasing game time.

With the launch of the PS Vita getting closer it looks like Sony is trying to squeeze the last bit of value out of the PSP. The PSP E-1000 is a very affordable option for those who have yet to purchase a PSP. Especially those who are nostalgic for the PSOne classics on PlayStation Store.

One question still remains. Why did Sony choose to launch this model as a Europe exclusive? It could be a test market to see how well the unit sells? The last thing Sony needs is another PSPgo situation.

The PSP E-1000 will be available this fall in Europe and there is no release information for the other territories. What do you think of the PSP E-1000? Will you buy it if it came to North America? Let us know in the comments.
