Online publication VR World claims that both the PlayStation 4.5 and the Nintendo NX will be properly unveiled at this year's Tokyo Game Show in September.
With rumors swirling about the Nintendo NX and Sony's upgraded PlayStation 4, fans are anticipating full reveals for both devices. So far, it's pretty much been a guessing game as to when the hardware will be revealed, but a report from online publication VR World suggests that both the NX and PS4.5 will be revealed in September at the Tokyo Game Show.
VR World makes this assumption based on information from AMD, which is apparently the company providing the innards of the so-called PlayStation 4.5. While there's not a lot of evidence backing VR World's claim, it does somewhat make sense for both the Nintendo NX and PS4.5 to both be revealed at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
We know that the Nintendo NX will not be at E3 2016, and so Nintendo would need a suitable stage to show off their device. While the Tokyo Game Show has lost some of its relevancy in recent years, hundreds of thousands of fans still attend the event annually, making it a great place to reveal new hardware. To that end, having a new console reveal take place at the Tokyo Game Show could help restore some of the event's importance, instead of all the big reveals and announcements happening at E3 every year.
The Tokyo Game Show just seems like the perfect time for Nintendo to reveal the NX. With the Nintendo NX set to release in March 2017, the September date for TGS would put the reveal exactly six months before the hardware launches. This would give Nintendo plenty of time to market it to the public, and hopefully release a console that performs much better than the Wii U.
The timing also matches up for the PS4.5. We know that Sony will be spending a lot of time at this year's E3 event discussing the PlayStation VR headset, and so also talking about the PS4.5 at the event could distract from PS VR. Rumors point to the PlayStation 4.5 being revealed before PS VR releases, and with the latter device set to launch in October, it seems like Tokyo Game Show in September would be a great time to unveil the rumored new hardware.
If Sony doesn't use E3 2016 to reveal the improved PS4, then it is reasonable to assume that the reveal will come at Tokyo Game Show, or perhaps a bit earlier at Gamescom. At the very least, the evidence is in favor of the device existing, so hopefully a full reveal comes soon enough, and the speculation can be put to rest.
