Sony's PlayStation Plus Premium subscription service, the highest-priced tier of PlayStation Plus, is set to lose two classic open world games later this month. Sony has yet to pull the curtain back on all the new additions that will be joining PS Plus Premium and Extra for the month of October, but subscribers do know of three games that they will be losing access to come October 17.

So far, only a few games have been removed from the PS Plus Premium lineup since Sony introduced the service earlier this year. The games removed from PS Plus Premium have primarily consisted of titles that were added when the service was still known as PlayStation Now. PlayStation Now has essentially morphed into PS Plus Premium, and so the previously-announced removal dates for those titles still apply on the new service.

On October 7, PS Plus Extra and Premium will be losing PGA Tour 2K21. And then on October 17, PS Plus Premium subscribers will be losing access to the original Red Dead Redemption game as well as its standalone expansion pack Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, which effectively functions as full-fledged open world experience in its own right. The original Red Dead Redemption remains one of the highest-rated open world games of all time and there is quite a lot of fondness for Undead Nightmare, so PS Plus Premium subscribers will undoubtedly be sad to see them go.

  • PGA Tour 2K21 - October 7
  • Red Dead Redemption - October 17
  • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare - October 17

PS Plus Premium subscribers who have yet to get their fill of Red Dead Redemption or the Undead Nightmare expansion still have a couple of weeks to play through the games. However, their removal will mean that PS Plus Premium is bereft of titles from Rockstar Games. In fact, just last month, Red Dead Redemption 2 was removed from PS Plus Premium.

While it's disappointing for PS Plus Premium subscribers that they have been losing access to Rockstar Games titles, the good news is that the removal of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will mark the end of game removals from the service for the foreseeable future. While Sony may very well remove more games from the PS Plus Premium lineup later this month, or later this year, it has not announced any actual plans to do so.

As far as new PS Plus Premium games go, Sony has said more information on that will come later this month. In the meantime, the company has revealed the new monthly free PS Plus games for October 2022, which subscribers can claim starting October 4.
