With October officially here, fans of the Pokemon franchise are well aware of what's coming by this point. That's right, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are just days away from their October 12th release, and Pocket Monster aficionados are closer than they've ever been to exploring the mysterious Kalos region. With additional gameplay mechanics, creatures, and more set to debut in the first ever core games on the Nintendo 3DS, there's still one new feature that the community seems the most excited for — Mega Evolutions.

Adding new and temporary evolved forms to pre-existing Pokemon has realized the dream of many long-time fans, especially when it comes to the original 151. Bringing Blastoise and Venasaur back into the realm relevance with Mega Evolutions is a great way to grab the attention of old-school fans, but Charizard is (and has always been) the favorite amongst trainers. Game Freak knows this, and that's likely why they've decided to give the iconic monster a second Mega Evolution.

Following in the steps of Mewtwo, the only other Pokemon confirmed to have two evolutionary forms, players will be able to evolve the fire-breathing powerhouse into either Mega Charizard X (the newly unveiled black creature that breathes blue flames) or Mega Charizard Y (the traditional orange Mega variant) depending on which version they have. Pokemon X and Y will each have version-exclusive stones that contribute to the character's new forms: Charizardite X and Charizardite Y.

The newly unveiled Mega Charizard X will alter the creature's type as well as form, switching from a Fire/Flying-type to a Fire/Dragon one and making its physical attacks stronger with a new ability known as Tough Claws. Evolving Charizard to its Mega Y form, on the other hand, will keep its original type intact, but dramatically increase the monster's Special Attack and makes Fire attacks incredibly potent with its Drought ability.

What do you think about Charizard's new Mega Evolution, Ranters? Which other Pokemon do you hope score secondary Mega Evolutions?
