Pokemon Scramble Wii U

There's no denying the appeal of the core Pokemon series amongst avid fans of the franchise, and Pokemon X and Y should cater to that audience later this year, but there's always some appeal that accompanies the reveal of a new spin-off. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity is set to scratch the spin-off itch for 3DS owners later next month, but Wii U owners have been hoping for something to quench their insatiable thirst for a Pocket Monster game since the console's launch.

To appease eager Wii U owners, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have announced that they'll be bringing Pokemon Scramble U (better known as Pokemon Rumble outside of Japan) to the system. Scans from the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine (via Serebii) confirmed the game's existence earlier today, making it the first Pokemon game to hit the Wii U. The title will be made available as an eShop exclusive, and is scheduled to arrive in Japan later this Spring.

This downloadable title will offer up a similar experience to past iterations, the latest being Pokemon Rumble Blast on the 3DS, but with a higher end aesthetic courtesy of the Wii U's enhanced power. A maximum of 100 origami-styled monsters will be able to duke it out on-screen simultaneously, and up to four friends will be able to venture through the cartoony world of Pokemon Scramble U together.

All 649 of the currently known Pokemon can be found within the confines of the game. This, unfortunately, means that the impending 6th generation of monsters featured in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be missing in action when Scramble U launches — the newly announced Eevee evolution included.

As of this writing, there's no word on when the game will actually get around to hitting Wii U eShops around the world, but fans should be able to expect the game sooner rather than later. For now, keep checking Game Rant for more details on the localization process for Pokemon Scramble U.
