Watch as thousands of dedicated Pokemon GO players in Taipei, Taiwan stampede through the city's busy Xinbeitou district in search of a rare wild Snorlax.

Love it or hate it, there's no denying that Pokemon GO, the augmented reality mobile game from Niantic, is the one of the biggest games of the year. Millions of people across the world are actively playing Pokemon GO, with currently no end in sight for the craze. With such a large number of individuals playing the game, sometimes areas that are known to have rare Pokemon available can get a little crazy, and so was the case at the Xinbeitou district in Taiwan's capital Taipei when a wild Snorlax appeared.

In a video that has since amassed half a million views, we can see what appears to be thousands of Taiwanese citizens running through the street, hoping to find Snorlax. Apparently, this particular area in Taipei is notorious for having rare Pokemon, and so the sight of thousands of people storming through the streets isn't exactly uncommon there anymore.

Of course, having thousands of people constantly crowd one particular district in Taiwan is a recipe for disaster, and there have been some issues. The civil-defense brigade as well as the police have been called in to deal with the overcrowding of enthusiastic Pokemon GO players, and if things don't calm down, it's reasonable to assume that the officials of Taipei may eventually call for a ban on the game altogether, like the small French town of Bressolles has talked about doing.

To some, the video of thousands of Taiwanese citizens stampeding through the streets in search of a Snorlax may seem familiar. That's because similar situations have been caught on camera elsewhere in the world. Take Central Park in New York City, for instance. Last month, the world famous park was overrun by Pokemon GO players looking for a wild Vaporeon. This is despite the fact that players can manipulate Eevee's evolution, meaning Vaporeon is not even all that rare, so just imagine what will happen when legendary Pokemon start appearing in the game.

While it's nice to see this level of enthusiasm for a video game, it's clear that Pokemon GO is also causing some issues that need to be addressed. Perhaps Niantic can discourage people from congregating in massive mobs by spreading out rare Pokemon and PokeStops instead of having them generally appear in the same area, or at least lessen the number of rare Pokemon that appear in places that Pokemon GO seems to be causing trouble, like in the Xinbeitou district or Central Park.

With Pokemon GO's incredible success, Niantic will have many other controversies and issues to deal with in the future. Niantic is already being sued by people that feel as though Pokemon GO is negatively impacting their quality of life, and that is on top of the various accidents and crimes that have occurred while people were playing the game. It will be interesting to see how Niantic tackles these problems moving forward, and if the company is able to come up with some creative solutions that don't compromise the fun of playing Pokemon GO for its fans.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
