With how long Pokemon GO has been out, there are many different Pokemon that have their shiny forms implemented. While the Kalos region doesn't have any shiny Pokemon until the Fletchling Community Day, every other region has multiple shiny Pokemon that can be found.

Many players hunt for shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO, but they don't have any mechanical advantage in battle over normal Pokemon. Shiny Pokemon just have different colorations compared to their normal counterparts, with the same possible stats as well.

One Pokemon that players can find in the wild as a shiny is Gligar. Originally from the Johto region, Gligar is a dual Ground and Flying-type Pokemon that can evolve into Gliscor. While an ordinary Gligar is a pinkish-purple color, a shiny Gligar is instead a more blue color.

Gligar's typing makes it good defensively, with it only being weak to Ice and Water-type attacks while also resisting damage from Electric, Fighting, Bug, Poison, and Ground-type moves. A problem with this, however, is that there is no special lure that players can use to attract either Ground or Flying-type Pokemon. There also isn't any known upcoming event that will increase Gligar's spawn rate as of this writing.

Even though Gligar has these things going against it, it is still possible for players to shiny hunt for it. Players are more likely to find Ground-type Pokemon around fields, railways, and beaches. Flying-type Pokemon, meanwhile, have been known to appear in fields as well as parks.

To make sure that spawn rates are as high as possible, players should use an incense and a normal lure on a nearby PokeStop. After that, it's up to chance whether or not a Gligar will appear. If players catch a shiny Gligar, they can evolve it with 100 Gligar candies and a Sinnoh Stone. Shiny Gliscor will keep the blue tone from its pre-evolved form.

An important thing to note while shiny hunting is that players will be unable to tell if a Pokemon is shiny or not from the overworld. The only way to tell is by entering the encounter screen. Shiny Pokemon are also not going to appear for all players with the same Pokemon in the overworld, meaning that two players in the same location who encounter the same Pokemon may only result in one player find it as a shiny. Leaving and re-entering the encounter will not change the Pokemon's shiny status.
