The massively popular mobile game, Pokemon Go, experienced its own evolution recently as Niantic announced a massive update to the game as well as the first major event known as the Season of Celebration. The aptly titled Go Beyond Update increased the level cap to 50, while also giving rewards to trainers who are able to hit the old cap of 40 before 2020 comes to a close. In addition, Niantic is putting a spotlight on the Kalos region, adding new Pokemon including Chespin, Pyroar, Froakie, and more.

Another major update to Pokemon Go is the addition of In-Game seasons, something the game loosely adhered to through weather and other style events. The first of these is the Season of Celebration, which runs from December 1 all the way to March 1 and brings with it a ton of events to look forward to across the three months including new mega raids, different Pokemon hatching from eggs, and a double Community Day taking place on December 12 and 13.

For many Pokemon Go players however, Season of Celebration features different Pokemon in the wild that can be found more often. Many of these will be seasonal types as well, changing depending on the hemisphere the player currently resides in. Here are the Pokemon appearing more frequently in each hemisphere.

Northern Hemisphere

For players north of the Earth's equator, many of the Pokemon found will be tied to the colder, winter months. In years past, this included pocket monsters like Delibird, Cubchoo, Snover, and more. According to Niantic, the following Pokemon will also have their spawns increased during the Season of Celebration, though it's worth noting that these are not the only Pokemon players will encounter.

  • Alolan Sandshrew
  • Alolan Vulpix
  • Seel
  • Lapras
  • Teddiursa
  • Deerling (Winter variant)

Southern Hemisphere

If it's colder in the north, that means players south of the equator will be seeing more Pokemon linked to the warmer summer months. Niantic has indicated that the following Pokemon will also have their spawns increased during the Season of Celebration.

  • Growlithe
  • Shuckle
  • Electrike
  • Burmy
  • Darumaka
  • Deerling (Summer variant)

As previously mentioned, eggs are also being updated for all players. Seel, Aron, and Elgyem have been removed entirely while Shinx replaces Ducklett from 5 km eggs only received from Adventure Sync rewards. Growlithe and Wingull are being added to 2 km eggs while Baltoy and Ducklett are available in standard 5 km eggs. These changes go along with the ones also being made when the Kalos region event kicks off on December 2 as well. Many of these will also see Kalos starters being added to 5 km eggs and others such as Litleo, Fletchling, and Bunnelby joining 2 km eggs. Noibat and Espurr will also appear more often in 10 km eggs.
