Legendary and Mega Battle Raids offer Pokemon GO players the chance to earn some of the best experience point rewards, powerful items, and encounters with very meta-relevant Pokemon. Although Mega Raids don't offer players the chance to actually catch and keep a Mega Pokemon, they do provide a quick path to Mega Energy, which is a resource that makes future Battle Raids far easier and opens up some exciting counter roster possibilities.

Players who want to take on a Mega boss, like Mega Ampharos, need to take some time to prepare by studying the Mega Pokemon's weaknesses and forming a strategic counter roster. When it comes to Mega Ampharos, that is going to mean taking advantage of its unique dual Electric-/Dragon-type pairing and fielding a counter roster full of the best Fairy-, Ground-, and Ice-type Pokemon available in Pokemon GO.

Mega Ampharos isn't the most challenging Mega Raid boss, but that doesn't mean it is going to be a pushover. Trainers still need to take the time to consider the creature's weaknesses, get the right moves equipped and enter the fight enough allies to ensure a solid victory. Trainers may want to take some time to spend a handful of Elite TMs before the big battle to get their counter roster equipped with the best possible move sets.

Mega Ampharos Weaknesses

Mega Ampharos is an Electric-/Dragon-type and it is weak against Fairy-, Ground-, and Ice-type moves.

Mega Ampharos Counters

  • Zekrom - Dragon Breath/Outrage
  • Garchomp - Dragon Tail/Outrage
  • Palkia - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor
  • Rayquaza - Dragon Tail/Outrage
  • Haxorus - Dragon Tail/Dragon Claw
  • Dialga - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor
  • Salamence - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor
  • Reshiram - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor
  • Dragonite - Dragon Tail/Outrage
  • Groudon - Dragon Tail/Earthquake

As always, trainers should keep in mind that it is still possible to defeat this Mega Battle Raid boss even without the best of the counters listed here. In order to succeed, the main thing trainers need to do is field a team full of the best Fairy-, Ground-, Ice-type move sets available to them. As long as the group sticks to exploiting Mega Ampharos' weaknesses, they should be able to secure a victory. Keep in mind that Friendship bonuses and Weather Boosts can help add that extra bit of bunch needed to really get across the finish line with smaller groups. To play it safe, trainers should try to bring at least three or four allies along who are also using an appropriate counter strategy.
