Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 Trailer

It’s been a good week for Pokemon fans. Not only were the first ever screenshots of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 released earlier this week, but now the first gameplay teaser for the much anticipated titles has arrived. The trailer may be in Japanese, but it’s seeing the games in action that fans of the franchise have been frothing at the mouth for.

Just a day before Pokemon Smash is set to air exclusive footage of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, Pokemon fan site Serebii.net shared the first ever trailer for the games. The trailer reveals a much different Unova region than gamers may be familiar with from the original Pokemon Black and White games – mainly because half of the region has been completely frozen. Presumably this is happening as a result of the Legendary Pokemon (Black Kyurem or White Kyurem depending on the version) running rampant in the territory. Hopefully it’s something the main character will be able to reverse though, so that players can once again access these now ice-aged areas.

The Pokemon Black & White 2 trailer also shows off some returning monsters from previous games that can be obtained prior to defeating the Elite Four. Also shown off are the two new gyms, led by the recently revealed Homika (the female Poison-type Gym Leader) and Shizui (the new male Water-type Gym Leader). Travelling around Shizui’s gym will focus on hopping between docks and lily pads, and the way it’s seemingly set up should make for an interesting challenge for anyone who thought getting to the gym leader in Black and White was a cake walk.

A new feature yet to be detailed is the inclusion of what looks like a movie set found in the games. Perhaps putting your Pokemon in films will be replacing the tedious, and debatably fun, Pokemon Musicals that were feature in these games’ predecessors. The end result, for whatever the green-screen/movie studio may end up being about, looks like a fun addition anyway. It’ll be interesting to see where Game Freak is going with that premise in Black 2 and White 2 though…

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 will be releasing on the Nintendo DS in Japan on June 23rd, followed by North America sometime this Fall.

  1. SO EXCITED IT’S CRAZY. Is it unnatural if an 18 year old still loves Pokemon? Eh, who cares.

    • I’m 21 and I still love it. It’s a great series.

  2. ^ you are not alone bro X3

  3. Everywhere I have worked has always had that guy in his mid to late twenties who would bring his DS to work and play Pokemon on breaks. You know he wasn’t alone, he was just the only one brave enough to be open about it.

  4. I don’t understand why everyone’s excited… I mean, what’s different from the last game?

    • Half of Unova is frozen over, 2 new gym leaders (and at least one new and unique pre-gym battle puzzle), a possible movie-making mini-game, and the (hopeful) possibility to battle one of the trainers from the previous games. And this is just ONE gameplay trailer.

    • Well, it’s a whole new storyline for one.

  5. Riolu and Absol?! I hope Zangoose will also be in there!

  6. Lmao, if you look at 1:56 in the video the Pokemon to the left of the screen has a butthole…….

    • First of all, thats to the right, and second, how immature of you.

  7. @Riley: If you had to choose between Black and White for the first games which one do you think is better? I may be interested in buying the first one’s and I am wondering which one to get?

    • I liked the Pokemon in White better (mainly Zekrom and Braviary), but it honesty comes down to which Polemon you want on your team. If you want Zekrom, then get Pokemon White; if you want Reshiram, then get Pokemon Black.

  8. The first gameplay trailer for ‘Pokemon Black 2′ and ‘Pokemon White 2′ has released early, and it shows a radically different Unova region then the one found in the first pair of games.

  9. Not sure what there is to get excited about. Looks like more of the same to me. I will get more excited once they replace the vague attack animations with something a lot more fluid (as seen in Pokemon Stadium games). Here’s hoping that happens whenever a main series 3DS Pokemon titles comes out. It would also be nice if they ditched the now low quality Pokemon roars with their actual voices from the cartoons. On Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and gameboy Advance, this is was excusable but the Nintendo DS hardware IS capable of doing this (and the Nintendo 3DS even moreso).
