Game Ranter Banter: All-Stars Battle Royale, EA/Gamer Relationship, And Valve's Awesomeness
Well, All-Stars Battle Royale- Sony's Super Smash Bros. style fighter - was finally unveiled this week, and we've got to say, it's looking pretty good (albeit extremely familiar). So good in fact, that we're kind of upset we'll have to wait so long to play it. No matter though, we've got the Game Ranter Banter to tide us over until the game's eventual release.
This week, our writers talk about the aforementioned fighter, Nintendo's online plans for the Wii U and 3DS, as well as the business strategies of EA and Valve.
“It’s just a shame that DICE’s talent has been put to work regurgitating the same FPS titles every year or so.” Kyle Matthews, you’re thinking of CoD. BF is way more innovative than CoD will ever be. “I’m definitely a little disappointed that in recent years, so many cookie-cutter, run-and-gun shooters have been taking the forefront of what largely identifies modern video game culture.” While I disagree about all FPSs being cookie cutters (see BF3, Syndicate, Brink), I am also disappointed to see FPS(mainly CoD) take over gaming culture. Gaming is about more than getting headshots and 360 quickscopes. There are so many great, unique games out there that aren’t FPSs, and they deserve to be played.
“Wait a second… speaking of Anonymo… No. They don’t have the audacity.” Haha, I would love to see Anonymous be the final boss. It would be pretty epic, and their powers would be pretty unique and awesome, I imagine. But then maybe Anonymous wouldn’t like their portrayal in the game and hack its servers, or PSN in its entirety (again).
About EA: At least they TRY to make new franchises. This year they published Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw, Syndicate etc… But then it comes to Activision. Spider-man and Call of Duty. Every year.
Man, I hope that a lot of cooler characters are featured in All-Stars. Cole McGrath is a good addition for sure, but other characters, like maybe Sackboy, Ratchet/Clank, and a few others could be added. That’d make my day. I can agree with Matt about the FPS though, it’s turning people into zombies.

I see what you did there, Kyle.

CoD makes them the big bucks and if Activision doesn’t release a spidey game every year I think they lose their rights to develop the games.
