With the upcoming launch of both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, rumors have been circulating about both systems as gamers keep an eye out for new details. Players are really looking forward to PlayStation 5's solid state hard drive and the amazing graphics of the Xbox Series X. But rumor has it that the Xbox will have a leg up on the PlayStation this time around: some sources are saying that the PS5 will not have any major launch exclusives.

Back in 1995 when the PlayStation 1 was released, the release was bogged down with lackluster launch games and no exclusives compared to the Dreamcast, which came out in 1999 as a direct competitor. Ever since then, Sony has had a much more solid list of launch titles as a way of competing with other consoles. Since the upcoming generation is standing on pretty equal footing when it comes to the consoles' system specs, players have been waiting for news on launch title exclusives to help decide whether the PS5 or the Series X would have a better launch.

While the PlayStation 4 was the clear winner against the Xbox One, this next generation seems to be leaning toward the Xbox, with the PS5 lagging behind because of backward compatibility issues and performance rumors. But if it is true that the PlayStation will not have any launch titles exclusives, that may push Xbox way ahead for this generation. It's rumored that instead, Sony will rely on heavily enhanced PlayStation 4 exclusives that will shine on the newer gen console. This rumor also stated that the Series X will have somewhere between 12 and 16 release exclusives.

Report Claims PS5 Won't Have Any Major Exclusive Games at Launch

In the battle to be the number one console purchased for the Christmas season of 2020, every little advantage will help. The loss of exclusives at release could be devastating to Sony. It seems to be a strange decision not to have exclusives, especially considering the history of the PS1 launch. This rumor hasn't been confirmed by anyone at Sony or Microsoft, but it seems incredibly far fetched and unlikely that Sony would hamper its own launch in such a way, especially with fans already excited about the Xbox launching with thousands of titles because of its backward compatibility.

However, having some last-gen updated exclusives move to the PS5 could be really interesting. Sony might be making a great decision by ensuring that old games will not only be compatible with the new system, but also upgraded, prettier, and maybe even with some additional content exclusive to the new console. While it might not be as good as some incredible launch titles, perhaps Sony is just trying out something a little different for its next launch after the PS4 was so incredibly successful.

If nothing else, Sony fans will have Godfall to look forward to for the PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are slated to launch next year.
