GameStop PS3 Price Drop Sale

Gamers who have been wanting to jump ship to team PS3 from the Xbox 360 better do so quickly! Up until April 26th of this coming week, GameStop is hosting a sale of epic proportions. Right now anyone can snag the PlayStation 3 160 gigabyte, slim model for just $199 (while supplies last). And that’s not even the best part!

With the purchase of the console, GameStop also provides a free copy of Batman: Arkham City or Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition.

This is not an official offer through Sony by any means — this sale is strictly a  GameStop only promotion. Could this mean that we can expect other retailers to follow suit? Amazon had price matched for a day, but has since discontinued the sale. Perhaps this could push Sony over the edge to truly make an official decision and announcement about a price drop?

PS3 sales have been slipping and Sony just reported a large sum of $6.4 billion in losses. A price cut could be exactly what the company needs if they want to follow through with their plan to put more focus on gaming to consumers. Sony has stated that at this E3 2012, there will be more emphasis on the Move. With a price drop and a heavy push for the Move to gain popularity, Sony could regain some of their losses before the Wii U releases this winter.

When Game Industry International spoke with a member of the EEDAR (Electronic Entertainment Design and Research), Jesse Divnich, about the recent price drop and unfortunate Sony sales he had this to say:

“I don’t believe the PlayStation 3 needs a price drop at the moment. Sales have been consistent and in-line to what one would expect for a platform that continues to successfully grow its install base so late in a console cycle. There could be many elements at play [about the price drop], but I highly doubt this is any indication of weakness for the PlayStation 3.”

Whether or not Sony plans on announcing a price drop for the PS3, since there won’t be a PS4 announcement at E3 2012, the company should invest a little research and keep a close eye on how well sales go after this GameStop promotion ends.

Ranters do you feel GameStop’s promotion is adequate enough to seek out a PS3 or should the deal be even sweeter?

I already have one but this is a awesome deal!

I already have one but i want a new one with a new hard drive, after two years my 120 gig ran down to a “to close for comfort” level :/

I’m pretty sure you can get a 2.5″ HDD or SDD that’ll just pop right in provided it’s sata. Not positive though.

Wow, this is tempting. My only concern is that once I drop the cash on it I would probably play it for about a month straight and then quickly get bored and go back to my 360 for some Gears or Halo. While the PS3 may be slightly more impressive, it’s all about the games for me, and in that category the Xbox wins 9 times out of 10.

Ok, I’ll name ten Awesome, AAA PS3 Exclusive titles, then you do the same for the X-Box…go

      1. God of War
      2. Uncharted
      3. inFamous
      4. Twisted Metal
      5. Metal Gear
      6. Demon’s Soul
      7. Little Big Planet
      8. Gran Turismo
      9. Ico
      10. Ratchet & Clank

You’ll notice I only listed franchises and not individual games, please, enlighten me on your AAA 360 list.

Of those 10 I only consider 3 of them decent, God Of War, Uncharted and GT. Besides, Halo and Gears individually trump anything Sony ever put out. You jelly?

        1. Halo
        2. Gears of War
        3. Forza
        4. Minecraft
        5. Bulletstorm
        6. Bioshock
        7. Mass Effect
        8. Fable
        9. Ninja Gaiden
10.I don’t need a tenth game, I already beat you with the first 2!

I would take Killzone over halo any day. Most of your other games listed weren’t exclusive either. Gears has to many inconsistencies when it comes to it’s multiplayer as well. I have both systems and have played most of the games you both listed. Most games come out on both systems so it’s based on your own personal preference, but I find that I play my Playstation a lot more than my xbox now that I realized xbox live has become more of a social activity for me than actually gaming. Too many kids on xbox too. I like Playstation because I can get the great exclusives they have and also play the other games that come out for both systems. As far as hardware goes I also like the move better then the kinect. I’m really looking forward to playing the new Bioshock with move compatibility, which if I’m not mistaken isn’t going to have support for the kinect. So my point is, do not knock the exclusives until you try them. People tend to talk a lot of slang when they don’t actually have a Playstation. Be open to the fact that Xbox isn’t god’s gift to the gaming world.

          except for the fact that…

          Mass Effect
          Ninja Gaiden

…are all on the PS3. Please try again. So it looks like your list is akin to your reading skills: lacking.

LOL, you listed 4 X-Box Exclusives…FOUR is less than TEN.

Figured you needed some math help too.
