As one of the more unexpected game releases in recent memory, the announcement of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was met with genuine excitement. Taking the simplified tower defence game into the realm of team-based shooters proved to be equal parts comical and enjoyable, although we noted several issues in regards to the game's shortage of content in our review.

Even then, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare proved to be successful for Electronic Arts and PopCap Games, which is why a followup was inevitable. That said, many gamers may not have been expecting one so soon.

A teaser trailer of sorts has been released for the forthcoming game, utilizing sound effects associated with the third-person shooter. Informing gamers that they should "get ready to soil your plants," the comedy that's always been associated with the series appears to be ever present. Of course, it's impossible to say what new additions in terms of modes and classes will be present, but it's exciting news for many nonetheless.

What's odd about the impending announcement, however, is that it's set for Microsoft's Xbox E3 2015 press conference. What's interesting about this is that Xbox head Phil Spencer has already stated that this year there will be a greater focus on exclusive first-party titles. While other major third-party titles like the timed Xbox-exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider will be present, many are now wondering if Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 could be following suit.

According to NeoGAF user Nirolak though, if that is indeed the plan then it will be solely a console exclusive. This is because the game is also said to be scheduled to arrive for PC in EA's fourth quarter, so that would mean that only PlayStation users wouldn't be on the receiving end of "soiled plants". Of course, this is just speculation, but it would be weird for Microsoft to focus on the game if there wasn't some sort of exclusivity deal in place. Only time will tell.

Microsoft's Xbox E3 2015 conference is set to get underway on Monday, June 19, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. PDT. With it will come a plethora of gaming announcements and updates, so stay tuned to Game Rant for news on any and all information that surfaces during the showcase.
