In such a saturated app market, it's difficult to make your mark and create a lasting impression. While a few distinct titles occasionally rise above the clutter and deliver a truly fresh and fun experience, some companies seem doomed to repeat the same mistakes. PopCap Games has certainly made an impression on the app market since its smash-hit first title, Bejeweled. In the years since then, games like Plants vs. Zombies have taken PCs, smartphones and tablets by storm, with countless zombies smashed since its release in 2009.
PvZ, as it has affectionately come to be known, sees players building plant forces to protect their home from waves of zombie invasions. With similarly popular titles like Rovio's Angry Birds updating and spawning a full-fledged sequel, it was only a matter of time before PopCap began working on a follow-up to their hugely successful game.
A recent press release from PopCap has set the release date of Plants vs. Zombies 2 at the first half of 2013 -- specifically, late spring. Aside from the traditional PvZ gameplay fans are used to, new game modes, locations and items can be expected to make an appearance in the sequel. While there's no word yet on exactly what players can expect to see in PvZ 2, chances are good that PopCap will keep the same level of quality and enthusiasm as with their previous endeavours -- their press release alone is a good indicator of this:
"Spring is crullest curlie ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots. So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to skedule schedlue plan... we're freee anytime. We'll find you."
Already supported on a staggeringly wide array of operating systems and devices, it looks like Plants vs. Zombies has nowhere to grow but up. Ranters: are you looking forward to more of your favorite zombie-mashing plants, while humming that infuriatingly catchy tune?
Plants vs. Zombies is available on PC, Mac, iOS and Android -- and just about everything in between. PvZ 2 is expected to see the sun next spring, with a plethora of new features.
