After years of waiting, and constant reassurances that the game was still in development, Pikmin 3 was finally revealed at this year's E3. Pikmin 3's debut trailer showed off some great visuals, and it goes without question that there is no better looking first-party game on the Wii U. As a result, it was one of the most desired games on the show floor at E3, and once we had the opportunity to play the game we happened to notice something... a previously unannounced Pikmin type.

The new pink Pikmin can be found by E3 2012 attendees on Pikmin 3's main menu, but the creature doesn't just simply shuffle across the screen — it flies. The adorable little magenta-flavored plantation can be seen by anyone who waits long enough on the game's main menu. After 15 to 20 seconds, one or two members of the new species will randomly hover across the screen.

After confronting the rep on the show floor about the flying pink Pikmin, they were unable to either confirm or deny what the creature was. "Yeah, so there are some additional Pikmin in the game that we'll be talking about at a later date," the E3 Nintendo rep assured. There's nothing much to more to confirm about the new animate vegetation other than a name at this point, so fans can look forward to that information soon.

This flying troop brings with it all kinds of possibilities. There will undoubtedly be scenarios that require the pink Pikmin to fly over a set of deadly obstacles, or possibly even carry some of the non-flying troops over the hazards to safety/treasure; both of which sound like fun game mechanics. They'll change up the gameplay significantly, so it'll be interesting to see just what this uniquely equipped breed is capable of.

Pikmin 3 is a launch window title, and is expected to release alongside or shortly after the Wii U's debut later this year.
