It's a big year for Atlus' Persona franchise which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. As part of the celebration, Atlus has been making all sorts of Persona related announcements from simpler reveals like new merchandise at the just opened Shop Atlus online store as well both music and stage performances. Many fans have been waiting for some bigger game announcements with rumors continuing to highlight a Persona 3 remake as well as a a potential Persona 6 reveal as well.

However, one announcement that was confirmed earlier this month at The Game Awards is the return of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Originally released back in 2013 in Japan before coming to consoles a year later, P4AU is a partial sequel to Persona 4 Golden, where the Investigation Team is invited to a combat tournament known as the P-1 Grand Prix. This version of the game isn't just a straight port of the original game, but it also collects all of the DLC content but it also includes the arcade only exclusive updates making it the most up to date version of the game available.

Unfortunately, Atlus has confirmed that the popular Rollback Netcode online feature won't be implimented when Persona 4 Arena Ultimax launches in March. For those unaware, rollback netcode has seen a very strong push as of late, offering online players some of the best ways to play. Included in games like Guilty Gear Strive and the upcoming King of Fighters 15, rollback helps stabilize the online experience, giving players a lag free and smooth experience whether fighting someone in the same region or halfway around the world.

All hope isn't lost however, as Atlus has confirmed that the company is considering adding rollback at a later date, though nothing has been decided as of yet. While the push for rollback has seen a major increase in recent years, the fact that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax won't have it at launch is a bit surprising. Releasing Guilty Gear Strive earlier this year and the developer on P4AU, Arc System Works has seemingly been at the forefront of the rollback push. This includes updating its older games like Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R and Xrd 2 potentially following suit.

While the return of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a welcomed surprise, many fans are hoping recent rumors are indeed true. Atlus has confirmed that more announcements are coming, though hasn't provided any hints as to what they could be. Rumors continue to swirl about potential announcements, from Persona 3 and Persona 4 Golden getting ported to more platforms, potential remasters of older games, and even a Persona 5 Arena game as well. For now, fans will have to continue to wait for more news.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax releases on March 17, 2022, for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
