Payday DLC Not Prequel Left4Dead

As many fans are already well aware, a special add-on for Payday: The Heist is currently being prepped for release. What makes this DLC so special is that it actually ties in with Valve's Left 4 Dead; instantly making it a significant piece of content for gamers that don't even own PayDay: The Heist. The leaked teaser trailer for the new map turned some heads when it first hit the world wide web, revealing a fully playable pre-zombie infected Mercy Hospital. This lead many to believe that the DLC would act as a prequel to L4D.

The now removed video's description only fuelled speculation, asking "have you ever wondered how the Left 4 Dead series began? It started with a heist!" Valve's Chet Faliszek emailed Kotaku to clarify what gamers can expect from Payday's crossover-based downloadable content, and assured everyone that, while the No Mercy map will be awesome, it is in no way official canon.

"This is a 100% Overkill made mission for Payday: Heist simply set in no mercy hospital from the Left 4 Dead series. It is not telling the origins of the Infection and is not canon."

While the content may not be the prelude to Left 4 Dead that some were hoping for, Faliszek revealed that there is a small easter egg to look forward to.

"There is a little cameo from one of the L4D characters (the comic should give you a hint) and a fun little easter egg with a payoff later in Left 4 Dead. Just us having some fun with a studio we are friends with and who have also made a great co-op game."

The DLC sounds promising so far, and a special appearance from one of the main Left 4 Dead characters should prove to be a neat little treat for fans. However the final product turns out, it's safe to say that the crossover is doing its job and grabbing some serious attention for Payday: The Heist.
